How to back up Audioshare recordings?
What is the easiest way to back up Audioshare recordings? I don't want to transfer files back and forth between Audioshare's dedicated iTunes folder. I know I can put stuff in Dropbox, but I'm looking for a one-step process that I can perform on a regular basis.

Comments
Use wi-fi drive in Audioshare and copy the contents you want to backup to your PC or Mac. Drag and drop
I appreciate the suggestion, but you can only download one file -- not even a whole folder -- at a time.
No, you can drag over complete folders or your whole Audioshare library
I'm happy to be wrong on this, but I just tried it again and I don't see that it's possible to do anything other than (a) open a single folder or (b) download a single file. If you've done it yourself, I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong.
I'm in work, but I'll check the process when I'm home later
I was in your boat once too.
At the top of the Library column, there's a box with a checkmark. Tap it. Now you can select every folder individually or all of them in total.
Mind blown, right?
I think you're gonna have to try harder with the "mind blown" thing.
I don't think you understand what he's trying to do. When using wifi drive in AudioShare, you can access your AS library via web browser on your desktop. After you activate wifi drive in AudioShare, you have to keep AudioShare in the foreground. Then, type in 192.168.1.72 or ipad.local/ and you'll see all of your files and folders.
Like @dokwok2 I'd be happy to be wrong on this, but once you've accessed your AS library, you can't simply drag over the folder to your desktop hard drive. You can download it by clicking on it, or you can open a folder by clicking on it, but you can't drag multiple files at once or a whole folder at once. At least not on a Mac OSX Sierra using Safari or Chrome.
So, if @gsm909 has a method that does allow this, I'd love to know about it too.
just move all the folders to the itunes library folder via the method @ExAsperis99 mentioned.
you can just copy paste it to your pc via itunes or ifunbox then.
What device / storage are you trying to back up to? That makes a difference in the possible answers.
You're talking about using iTunes filesharing. The original post says "I don't want to transfer files back and forth between Audioshare's dedicated iTunes folder. "
@ExAsperis99 was responding to a post regarding being able to drag and drop files from your AudioShare library to your computer using AudioShare's wifi drive feature as @gsm909 suggested. So @ExAsperis99 's "mind blowing" solution really doesn't apply here.
@gsm909 says you can do this via wifi drive and drag/drop files and whole folders to your desktop without having to download them each individually. I don't think this is possible, at least not on a mac.
That's a much deeper reading than I gave it. I thought he was simply having trouble grabbing folders in Audioshare, since the mechanism for selecting multiple items is slightly obscure. (At least it once was to me.)
I did say ifunbox. The itunes filesharing folder in AUM only means it allows apps to access them from AUMS sandbox. you can move all your folders and copy all of them at once. i do it all the time.
This works. Thank you. It's not so hard that it can't be done -- just cumbersome enough that it won't get done (on a regular basis).
I do wish there were a way to sync these files with the cloud, other devices: more convenient, but also safer...
Not on a PC either.
You can zip a folder by long-pressing on it, then download the zip file, but that's two steps, and then you still want to delete the zip file left behind.
I've always used the excellent FileBrowser app for archiving things, but with just the basic app you would need first to copy to the app, then out to external storage. I noticed an option for "Network Folders" available in the Business version, which seems to allow exporting directly to any network place (PC, NAS, FTP, etc.) that filebrowser can connect to. However, my first attempts have only shown iCloud as an option. Will report back if I get it working.
If the goal is just to have a good backup of everything in Audioshare .. and other Apps as well...An iTunes backup to a computer ( if you have one ) or a backup to your iCloud account should suffice?
I've never actually tried restoring a backup from iCloud .. but would presume it not only brings the Apps back ( which are really just place holders in the App Store ) but also the data the apps have within. ( i.e. actual recordings in Audioshare )
On iOS 10.3 you can take a look in
Settings-> ([your name], Apple iD, iCloud, iTunes & App Store ) -> iCloud -> (iCloud status bar ) -> Manage Storage -> Other Documents -> Audioshare
Should see all the Audioshare recordings in there.
As long as you have iCloud backup on .. and you have enough space there.. that should serve as a backup.
I didn't know you could long-press to zip. Thats good info, thx
Was only interested in this thread because of the claim you could drag and drop whole folders via wifi drive. After reading @gsm909 's post that you could, I gave it a try. Didn't work with either browser I tried. I'm still curious is this is indeed possible. It's be cool to be able to just wirelessly access the AS library and drag a whole folder over to a drive on my desktop without having to bother with iTunes or iFunbox.
I've also got a RAVpower external wifi combo SD card reader/writer with an usb port on it. I can actually move stuff to/from the iPad wirelessly to either an SD card, or a usb drive or thumbdrive connected to the RAVPower, but I have to use the GoodReader app, that's kinda flakey, tedious and slow.
If @gsm909 comes back and reveals some way you can indeed drag/drop whole folders from AS to your desktop using wifi drive that I've missed, I'll be thrilled.
I don't think that is going to come back as possible. But I'd be very happy to be wrong.
So far, zipping, downloading, then deleting the zipped file seems to be the best option.
FileBrowser Business does work for exporting folders to remote storage. However, the folder shows up as a zip file (without the zip extension), so I had to resort to renaming the file in order to open it on my PC. Hardly less trouble than zipping and downloading.
Well, the zipping feature may just be all I'm personally looking for in this scenario, ie. not having to move them one-by-one.
Do you know if you can move/nest several folders into one folder, then zip that whole folder for transfer? I'll try it later when I'm near the iPad again. If so, that's all I'd need.
Doesn't look as though you can. You'd need to have a master folder, with all the other folders contained within it.
[edit] sorry, I misread your post. Yes, you can easily move multiple folders into another folder. Just multi-select them and then touch the download icon. Browse to the folder you want to move them into and touch "Move items Here". Piece of cake.
I had thought you were asking if you could zip multiple folders with the long touch.
Hadn't seen your edited post, but just tried it. Made a main "3-31-17 Backup" folder, added a folder called "Recordings" that I put a bunch of field recordings in. Then moved that folder and a bunch of finished compositions into the "3-31-17 Backup" folder... zipped that then easily transferred the one zipped folder wirelessly using AudioShare's wifi drive. Piece of cake!
I'd completely forgotten about the zipped archive feature of AudioShare. Thank you for reminding me.
Always impressed at just how well done and useful the AudioShare app is. Seems it should just be a part of the built-in iOS, but I think I'd rather the stewardship of this most essential of all iOS audio apps remain @j_liljedahl good care, instead of potentially being cordoned off in a closed sandbox by Apple.
@dokwok2, sorry to get your hopes up last night, but after spending a few hours on the case last night, I am amazed that transferring complete folders is not possible, unless as previously stated, they are zipped.
You can copy folders to Dropbox from AudioShare without having to zip them.
Whole folders with one click? If so, that's even better.
Thanks for checking.
You can put Dropbox on your computer too.
@dokwok2 Have a read of this thread, it may have the info u need....

Thank you, @DaveMagoo -- that was informative.
This is mostly a browser short coming. I haven't tried it with AudioShare but http://www.downthemall.net/ is a free browser plugin (FF and Chrome) which might do the trick.
Would be a great feature if there was a 'Download All' button that (invisibly) zipped the whole !# on the AS side and presented a zip to download. And deleted it once downloaded.
