looking for something like Patterning but with a non circular design
i like Patterning a lot except for the circular design. any app similar but with a more traditional ui?

Elastic Drums has some similarities.
You mean like DM1 for sampled drums, or DM2 for synthesized drums? Or Diode-108. Or Gumdrops, with beats so sweet you're bound to get ill.
I use elastic drums when I don't use patterning.

Robotic drums has the probability bit, I think.
There isn't one, sorry to say, and there can't be. I don't always want to mess with circles, either, but the cyclic thing is integral to the app's concept.
It gets horizontal in song mode pretty quickly.
Just saying that for me that's the coolest part of the app

So apparently Stochastik is abandonware. But I loved the jazz kit samples. Would love to have some jazz kits for Patterning. Or even DM1. Do they exist? Maybe I should check drumjam.
I think drumperfect has an element of randomisation but not the shift
When i looked recently for stoch it wasnt even there in the app store....
Really would be happy if they have updated it

Quantum Sequencer , forthcoming mega - version of @midiSequencer with 6 (T)Racks x 4 parts , will offer seemingly straight lines to sequence with , but with deeper sequencing options than Patterning offers .
So in addition to per step probability , true polyrhythmic mode & even more play direction variations ( Brownian , Forward Skip 1-7 etc ) , it should be possible to replicate Patterning's Rotate feature , admittedly with a couple more programming steps , using the Follow Actions function to sequence Step # start.
As a betatester I will test this next time I fire it up.
Tony is working incredibly hard & amazing features are being added , hence its delay.

Someone posted a brush kit for patterning on the iPad musicians Facebook group yesterday .
elastic drums is my favorite by a long shot. Not crazy about DM2 as a drum synth. Sector and glitch breaks are really cool to get variations of your patterns you create in a different app. I find sector always has the same swing though. But glitch breaks, wow, you can get awesome results if you want the drums to be totally varied and never looping the same. Great for IDM. The effects in elastic drums are really something, You can send multiple Fx to each drum channel. Echo on snare, reverb on clap. Distortion on drum, bit crush your hi hats. I just really love that app and with the latest update you can use samples. So you can pretty much make drums out any sounds you record. It also records automation. It's the only app I use to initially sequence my drums. There's some cool live features as well like stuttering etc.

Which apps beyond patterning can do polyrhythmic stuff, like I can have different length patterns (from 2 to at least 24 steps) running to the same measure length?
I'm pretty happy with patterning, but sometimes I prefer a linear sequencer as well.
in Dhalang MG, all step and automation sequencers can have their individual loop points in any (quantized or not) lengths.
@Hypertonal Dalang has me curious for a long time, I bet it is extremely interesting, but I'm a recovering app-addict and I haven't been able to let myself buy yet... But your comment is not helping my will power
I'll second Elastic Drums and GlitchBreaks as being square alternatives, but embrace the circle, and then go full circle with Different Drummer
DrumPerfect Pro has all the probability offers and polyrhythm with different lengths and various everything. It doesn't do the shift though. When it comes to probability chains (only do hit B+C+D if hit A happens which has a probability of 25%, etc) I'd say nothing else comes close. That the various hits themselves have a probability divided by the amount of samples you feed it is of course a bonus too if you aim for natural drum sounds. IMHO of course.
