Great Bands That Didn't Happen

Just for fun, I thought I'd post the gist of a discussion I had last night, concerning rock legends, two of which are definitely true, of great bands that almost happened. Perhaps others here can add more? What we came up with last night was...
Led Zeppelin (version 0)
- Supposedly comprised of Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon.
HELP
- Emerson, Lake and Palmer fronted by Jimi Hendrix.
The Silver Beatles
- McCartney, Harrison and Starr, joined by Julian Lennon at Live Aid.
AC/DC (version 2)
- When Bon Scott dies he is replaced by Noddy Holder.

The one I always have read a few times from iffy rock biographers like Geoffrey Guilanno is that McCartney, Clapton, Mitch Mitchell and a few other rock luminaries kicked around the idea of a super group called Turpentine.
It's bullshit, been proven false, but it still makes the rounds in these big budget rock biographies. Turpentine was just one of many band names McCartney considered for the earliest incarnation of what soon was named Wings.
Clapton wasn't a McCartney enemy but he played with Lennon in Toronto in late '69 & was Harrison's best friend so he being a McCartney foil seems really unlikely.
But that's all it takes, a few jumbled facts and you can get these misunderstandings quite easily. I'm just relieved the Kenny G & Metallica project wasn't a rumor...

Interesting to note that most supercollaborations that came were aimed at superbands were in most cases failures. Too much ego.
Many years ago, Rick Wakeman had a TV show called Gastank and a guest one week was Steve Hackett. They said they got on well and were considering forming a band, but I think the record companies got in the way and it never happened. That would have been an interesting combination!

AC/DC 2 - Was that possible Noddy Holder one true?
Absolutely! The Wilbury's and Blind Faith to an extent were the two main supergroups that worked.
CSN&Y get thrown in there as well but I some how don't see them as a 'supergroup' per se. Yes they all came from successful acts and already had a bit of fame, etc but if they weren't together I don't see them on their own having great commercial careers. And I LOVE Stephen Stills, that Manassas album is one of my all time favorite albums, but aside from the critical reception being positive I dont see CSN individually having big careers.
XYZ (Ex-Yes & Zep)
Jimmy Page, Chris Squire an Alan White. There are rehearsal tapes floating about, bits of the material made into later Yes albums...
I dont remember if it was like that Lemmy was planning to make Albert Järvinen Motörheads new guitarist or if they were planning some band of their own(i think it was this, but not 100% sure), but the whole thing was ditched due to Alberts heavy drinking. Lemmy did produce and sing this song for Albert if some Lemmy fan is interested to hear what could had been:
Im sure nearly no one here knows, but Albert was one of the Finlands most legendary guitarists.
I would have loved to see Stevie Nicks and Erykah Badu in a group as a duo or , as vocalist in the group the tom tom club
Yes the first Wilbury album was wonderful.
As for Noddy being invited to join AC/DC, yes that is true. He speaks of it in his bio.
Billy Corgan and Marilyn Manson had plans to make a band called, "Fruity". --named after the feeling they felt under the influence of muscle relaxers. :-)
Duran Duran almost had Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy as their singer.
Charles Manson worked with the Beach Boys on a song called, "Never Learn Not to Love". If you've ever heard the song, you can imagine what that side project would have sounded like!!
I just remembered another one: Metallica and Primus nearly got together.....or at least Les Claypool...
Ray Manzarek wanted Iggy Pop to front the Doors.
Rusty Day turned down the lead vocalist spots in both AC/DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd after their respective frontmen died.

De La Soul and Teenage Fanclub. They did one great track. Would have loved to hear more.
I would have loved to hear Michael Jackson sing on some prince tunes.
Fugazi started as a super group of sorts. Members from Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Dag Nasty and Happy Go Licky (and others but they were the same people in other DC hard core bands).
I imagine the famed Prince vaults are chock full of unreleased/unpublicized collabs.
Been reading Johnny Marr's autobiography and it's bordering on absurd how many people he's recorded with. He's been a full member of The Smiths, The The, The Pretenders, Electronic, The Cribs and Modest Mouse (as well as his own band The Healers). And played on too many to really count but Beck, Talking Heads and Bryan Ferry jump to mind.

In a way, I think that might've been better. Never really been convinced by LeBon.
It was the soundtrack for the movie "Judgement night". They made a complete album for the movie (Rock vs HipHop). The movie was shit, but I liked the CD much when I was a teenager. Great song.
