Korg Gadgets Brothers - Are they worth it? (Module, Are Odyssei, iM1, Wavestation)
I just want to ask, since I've recently jumped full in with Gadget and love it's structure, is it worth grabbing the other app gadgets even though I might have, say, SampleTank for Piano sounds, and other things?
Please let me know what you think ![]()

Everyone's got toast, but for me, an unreserved yes (on everything but Kamata which I hold at arm's length as some kind of proof of self-discipline).
If you like Gadget you'll soon find any other additional Gadget is pretty much worth it just to have another self contained module in Gadget. It's just nicer to use a synth inside Gadget rather than importing samples or syncing another app to Gadget. Definitely 1 or 2 of those listed are more than worth it. I have all the Iaps but Kamata - will probably never get that one - and I'd get Odessi if my iPad supported it (I will get as soon as I upgrade iPad) I think you'll find many users here think the extra Gadgets are worth it. No question.
Yes to all of them. I even got Darwin installed on my iPhone, which wasn't really so painful a process as others would have you believe. (Once you get things set in motion, it don't take more than 10 minutes, which may seem like a while, but it was installed by the time I finished cooking my scrambled eggs.) And, yes to Kamata as well if you're looking for legit arcade-styled sounds to inject into your productions.
The appeal of Gadget to me is that it not only sounds good and has a mostly engaging interface, it's a self-contained sketchpad. So the more Gadgets the better. I also have all the IAPs except Kamata (some people love it.) Without at least a few of the ones you mention, at least for me Gadget stand-alone would have too narrow a sound palette.
I would say an absolute yes to iM1 and ODYSSEi. Two of my most used Gadgets. Module has some nice sound, but probably not essential. I rarely use Wavestation, but that's likely just my personal preference, as the sounds/style just don't really fit my type of music (bought it anyways, as I'm a Gadget whore).
Yes. Gadgets are like Pokemon. You gotta catch em all.
I'd say it depends on what you're looking for. For example, i rarely if ever use module and i don't think i've ever used Odyssey
iM1 is brilliant. It comes with lots of great presets and it's very easy to program. Wavestation is also great for evolving sounds
Just be aware that there are ui inconsistencies between their implementation in gadget. It's kinda like each was done by a separate team and the design document got lost
Also, Kamata is fantastic
Don't listen to this heresy. You gotta catch em all. Be the best gadget master!
On a serious note I love module. Bought a bunch of Iap for it and I love the fact they all show up inside gadget. Best part though is that after importing into gadget you can actually delete module and all the gadgets versions of the keyboards still remain.
Also, most of us wait for the sales.
There is a sale going on right now i think.
Yep. i was right.

Your choice of which to get may depend on the kind of music you play, but i don't think you'll be disappointed with any of these, they all help round out the choice of sounds you have at your disposal when using Gadget - plus they can be used in other DAWs too. Just get 'em!
The biggest weakness of Gadget is the limited sound design capabilities, and if you don't even have Lexington/Odyssei, you don't have a proper analog polysynth to begin with.
iM1 and iWavestation are the best Korg Apps, but Milpitas and Darwin sure as hell aren't. To use iM1 for anything else than preset browsing you have to do sound design in the iM1 app, so you can use it in the darwin gadget. It's just really bad.
At least Lexington isn't too far off the standalone app...Milpitas lacks crucial controls too.
I'm pretty tired of it and say f*ck Korg. It is all kinda bullshit. They don't update their older apps, they lack crucial features on brand new apps like Odyssei.
Oh yeah and they totally ignore their own user forum. Fuck em.
Being a Korg addict so I'd say yes.
I'm just 'missing' the iElectribe Gorillaz Edition and some Module IAPs.
Arp is definitely worth it, wavestation seems like as well(but havent tried), dunno about others
Get what you can, having them available within Gadget is great......I'd add Gladstone and Madrid to your list too if you want real acoustic sounding drums and bass....my two most used gadgets
on top of that
Module is awesome if you are into keys as opposed to synths, the electric piano and Organ IAP's are totally worth it.
iOdyssei if you want a great sounding analogue modelled synth with lots of options
Kamata is great for sharp digital sounds
Bilbao if you want to import you own drum sounds.
The others I don't use a whole lot anymore...but did use iM1 quite a lot when I first got it, mainly fo rthe Bass guitar sounds....but I use Madrid for this now.
I agree with this.
I buy them just to know what is available.
Since ReSlice from Virsyn I really don't need Abu so I am not really using Gadget.
Also, the new Audio apps keep krunking up on me when I try and use them.
Not sure if the newest Gadgets were anything like people actually asked for regarding Audio. Detailed Edit and resampling features really were needed.
I do everything in Gadget myself and find all the gadgets/Module (and most of their iAPs) worth it.
I think that Kamata, Madrid, Gladstone and Bilbao are must. I use them a lot in almost every project within Gadget. Also I like the Darwin, but I really don't understand how to use Milpitas.
Milpitas is Wavestation right?
I use that a lot even though i rarely use Gadget anymore. I usually start with the init patch and then go to edit waves. That's where you can add new ones and set crossfade etc.
I love it. You can do very complex evolving sounds pretty easily
The only way to be sure is to get them all
I like them all, especially now that KRFT beta 1.5 soon to be realeased, has midi out. I've been having a blast sending midi to Gadget in AB3 and using it as a sound module... So imagine having drums, bass, pads, leads all being played inside gadget, but controlled by KRFT! It's impressive, fun and awesome!!!!
This sounds like a winner. Very excited for this.
They are all good. For me in an order of usefulness something like:
Bilbao
Module
Madrid
Milpitas
Lexington
Kamata (I've just started using it for really nice digital sounding bass)
Abu Dhabi
And definitely iM1 last - since I don't like playing presets and don't rate it's sounds all that much. Oh and Gladstone also last - just because I don't really use acoustic drums much (but then I might do in the future).
I find Gadget over the years really rewards you digging into different gadgets at different times. I thought I really didn't like Berlin - never used it - but I've just rediscovered it and what brilliant bass and lead sounds it can make.
So it's nice to have them all to hand for a rainy day.
Damn :-/
I got the email about the sales but the images in the mailshot led me to believe it was only the desktop software which was going on sale. Jesus!!!!!
Let's hear that kamata bass. Just looking for any reason to buy more gadgets.
My most used gadgets are:
Bilbao
Lex
Dublin
Helsinki
Phoenix
Tokyo
Madrid and gladstone are great but don't fit what i'm doing now. The others just come out to play Occasionally.
