It's a very weird business. Being a 'celebrity' is strange enough, but throw in gigging, hotels and touring, a few 'boosters' to keep you going and it's a complete removal from reality.

I've known, played and partied with a few who've fallen by the wayside, not for the faint hearted or sensitive souls.

I hear you. Reminds me of something Sting said a while back. Having avoided fame and celebrity until the ripe old age of 27, he remarked that, had he reached that level of fame when he was 19 or 20, he would not be alive today.

Makes sense. Does fuck with most people at probably the perfectly wrong time. For the record, still not ready...

I love that quote by Sting, I think of it often. Also a reminder that just because you're not successful at 19 your career isn't over.

  • This is an awesome entire acoustic concert he did in Sweden.

Yep. I keep looking for that trailblazing maverick that bursts into a wildly successful rock and roll career at 46

As much as I've dreamt of rock stardom, I have to agree. I still don't have my shit together nearly enough to contemplate life in Mr. Peart's fisheye lens, never mind that guilded cage ...

John Karkin, a.k.a The Scatman, became a star at 53, although he did have a long carrier as a jazz pianist before that.

Good to know, thanks. Hope springs eternal :sunglasses:

Back to Mr. Cornell's untimely passing – first time he blew my mind was watching the vid for "Jesus Christ Pose" from Badmotorfinger. That was an intense track ...

  • Grunge is the gift that Generation X gave to the world of music. We took all that slacker cynicism, mixed it up with our older siblings’ sneering punk attitude, Zeppelin’s low end and, if we’re being honest, a little heroin. The result was the musical version of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. It was gorgeous art that was absolutely sure that nothing really matters, making it feel immediate and important. It was the sound of a generation telling everybody, including ourselves, to fuck off.

Yeah, good. Thanks for the nudge.
