Cubasis Sampler... Wonky
In the Cubasis Sampler there is an option to access the media bay, implying you can import samples into the sampler and not just have to record them. But when I select a sample here it just adds the sample to the project and not to the actual sampler. Is there a way to get this to work? @LFS

When you save the Cubasis sampler-instrument the samples used by it will be embedded into the *.cbi file.
You can then recall the sampler instruments from any future Cubasis project.
That isn't what I mean. i would upload screenshots but that seems to be broken too... lol
@Sebastian
Howdy Sebastian, I can't seem to upload screenshots from Safari on iPad or Chrome on PC. Halp! The fate of my Cubasis Sampler query is in your hands!
Yepp, noticed that too... (broken file uploads).
All I know is that I've successfully created quite a bunch of sampler-instruments by loading samples from the 'media bay'(and deleting them after the sampler instrument is saved). I do wish there was a way to 'copy' an audio-events from the project into the the sampler but it seems they need to be saved to the media bay first...
Go into the MiniSampler's Record tab, then look for the Media button. Select a sound file and drag it onto a key. Drag out the keyrange as needed.
HMmm, I did try that but it didn't work the first time. Guess I didnt try hard enough. Now it works, awesome, thank you!
Hah, and now it doesn't work again! Ok well at least it can work...ish
EDIT: Ahh, i see, in a fresh project with no CPU load it works great. Well time for some drum kits and Future Drummer midi piping.
I also use the drag to a key from the media bay method. This is how I use the minisampler pretty much every day. Seems to work well for me.
Yah it was just a CPU issue for me. it seems anything over 75% CPU use on my mini2 makes the drag to key not work well. should be fine on the newer ipad I have.
Yep. I like making kits with the minisampler. Super fast and easy.
Argh... I copied a couple gigs of samples to Cubasis on my 2017 ipad and now when I try to load them it takes several minutes to build the sample list every time I go in to the sampler. Once it loads in the whole list it works great but there is a huge wait, even when the files haven't changed. I would think that it should only have to build this list once and not every time. I hope this gets fixed before BM3 steals my heart... forever.
@LFS
Ahhh, so looks like with iFunbox you can copy directly into the samples folder and skip the media bay importing. noice!
The other issue with media bay is that the folder structure isn't multi-tiered, I can't load a batch (like those I've purchased from say AudioCopy store) that contains a three or more tier folder structure: "Rainbowland/One Shots/Drums/Snares"
Yep. That is a pain in the butt. What sampler allows batch loads? Interested to know?
I know only of iMPC Pro, (and Hook though, that's not a sampler as such) but only via the AudioCopy app. The batch loading I mention here is just drag and drop via iMagix, which is what I've become used to fit big loading.
Apps like Caustic or Sunvox and PixiTracker, one can drag a multi tiered folder into their docs, and the file structure with sub files is preserved.
Most apps import multiple samples/files in one go if you put them in a zip-archive first.
This is easy to do using AudioShare. Long-tap on folder and select 'Make Zip Archive'.
After that you can do 'Open In..' and import the Zip-File to almost any app you like.
(Apps that support *.zip will show up in the Open In... menu).
As for assigning multiple user selectable samples to pads in one go we'll have to wait and see...
Thanks for this
The batch import thing is actually a side issue for me, I shouldn't have used the word in my post, the pain in the neck part is the way Cubasis (and FLSM also) don't preserve the tier structure of a folder containing layers of sub folders.
Yeah, preserved folder-structure is something that needs and should to be addressed in most apps.
I'm happy that one upcoming app handles this all with flying colours...
Sunvox 2.0 sounds amazing
I do think the file system is what is really going to hold back iOS for music making in the near future once other platforms become more viable.
Yeah, but I have a feeling things will be even more 'cloud based' meaning keep everything in the cloud.
As more and more apps implement iCloudDrive/Document-Picker things do become a bit easier to handle.
AudioShare is already a very good 'hub' for handling files and as long as the file-managers serve the files using iOS-FileProvider extension there is no need to 'use the cloud' for storing the files.
When WWDC'17 kicks off we'll get more information where iOS is heading...
One thing that could happen is that the iCloud Drive.app gains a 'local files' functionality.
If it's implemented correctly it would give the user access to every apps 'Documents' folder(ie. iTunes Shahred).
And nope I was not referring to SunVox 2.0 but BeatMaker 3.
I don't even know what's cooking for SunVox 2.0
I do know there is a new Tracker in the works from the SquareSynth developer called E-Nigama...

Cloud stuff is fine for wifi but mobile data rates are insane in Canada, so maybe my perspective is off. People I work with come from the UK and think we live in the dark ages, but its just a damn big country hehe. Maybe one day it will come down in price but currently it is not very practical here for large projects.
Has there been any official word/hinting of 'iCloud Drive.app gains a 'local files' or is that speculative hope?
That's purely my speculative hope...
(I have also sent it as a feedback suggestion to Apple long time ago).
I'm so fed up with 'iTunes File Sharing' and the obvious technical solution here is for Apple to 'expose' the folders thru iCloud Drive.app.
I mean iOS could run a private 'FileProvider Service' and 'mount' all the apps Documents folders after user approval and expose them in the iCloudDrive.app. It would be a super smooth and elegant solution.
I also hope iOS11 gains extended cache-management so we can easily clean out 'junk'.
(Caches from Spotify, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger etc. eat up gigs of space and the 'delete app to clear caches' is not a viable solution).
I'll be glued to my AppleTV when WWDC'17 starts. I'll check out most of the sessions that spark my interest
Ok so I have IMPC pro. I deleted it because it just seems too fidgety to me. Sounds kinda funny to my ears somehow also? Too bad we can't import batches of samples into Cubasis in that manner.
@samu mentioned the one way I know: zip the collection in AudioShare and "Open In" Cubasis. It'll come out as a one tier file structure, though (no matter how it went in)
I look forward to BM3. If I can just copy whole sample libraries to it via ifunbox, fire and forget style, and be able to drop them quickly into a track in progress... oh happy shall I be.
(Yeah, still got too many apps installed LOL).
After you drag the files/folders using iFunBox you can 're-index' the file-database to make searches almost 'instant' within the app.
And yes you can drag files from the file-browser straight to audio-tracks or bank/pads.
Slightly off topic but...
That looks... awesome! Thanks!
I have stopped using Cubasis for this reason. Samples are essential to me.
)
The sampler is nice to operate at first but lacks many important features, for me it was the missing velocity layers and the lack of standard file format support for sample banks.
When I spend the time to create my own banks, I need to be free to use them in other apps.
BM2 has quite a good sampler already, but again a proprietary file format.
As for what's available today: What I currently like using best is Audio Evolution Mobile.
It imports SF2 (SoundFonts) that are much more fun to create on my desktop machine anyway, then import them into AEM and use them for composition. The Piano Roll in AEM has evolved a lot in the last few months, and it's fast and usable now. Also, audio recording seems flawless, and the ToneBoosters plugins are mostly fantastic (The EQ being my favourite
If you can't do without Cubasis, you can always use bs-16i for multi-timbral SoundFont playback.
