BM3 no audio problem

I am having problems with BeatMaker 3. I compose and create music using more than one of the same AUv3 plugins like two Poison-202 plugins and I save it as a session then I close BM3. When I reopen BM3 and open the session I saved there is no audio when I playback. I have tried everything like checking mute and solo but the problem is still there. When I look at the mixer on BM3 there is no audio going through. This could be a bug. Please advise.

If you see the sound file in Sequence view, is the pattern dark or light. You might try to push the arrow to the right of the track.

  • If you've already tried reloading the plugin, then my 'this is a weird workflow' answer is to tap the wide box at the very top of the screen, to the left of the bars and beats display. Then tap 'play song' in the section that appears. Patterns in the sequencer will then produce audio.

Are you talking about the arrow left and the top in Song mode in the Sequencer?
That solved my problem last night. I honestly don't know why.
The patters were grayed out, but came to life after pushing the arrow. I can't reproduce the problem now.

Nope, it's the wide box at the top left of the screen which either has the currently selected pattern data inside it, or says 'playing song' or says 'stopped'.

I have no idea how those arrows work!

    Ahh I see, cool.
I also misspoke, said to you left, meant right. Do you know what the small arrows and the big one on top actually do, that are located on the right of all the tracks in Sequencer Song tab?
Fiddling with these started my audio last night.

No, I'm really confused about them. There's an explanation of the sequencer on the Intua website but I think I need to read it some more.

Could be also related to feature not yet implemented.

Those are "Take over" buttons, kinda what you would expect. Top one for the whole song and the smaller for each track. Not working for me.
Could be something else I did accidentally last night that saved my bacon.

The pattern is light and I have tried pressing the arrow to the right but I'm still getting the no audio problem.

I seem to only have the no audio problem when I open sessions that use two of the same AUv3 plugins.

Are you using audio tracks to make multi outs from each pad ? If yes you need to set monitor on to each audio track every time you load a project. Otherwise you will only get silence.

No, I'm using AUv3 plugins. I'm using two instances of Poison-202.

I'll try and share it when I get home. I am using an iPad Pro 9.7 running iOS 10.3.2.

Other projects seem to open with audio working but projects that I have saved that use two instances of the poison-202 AUv3 plugin don't work and have the no audio problem because there is no sound coming out the speakers.

I wonder if it's a bug that happens when you have multiple instances of the same AUx.

I never bumped into this during beta and I used around 10 instances of Poison-202 on my Air 2, iOS10.3.2.
Could be an iPad Pro related thing too...

  • I will try the same project on my iPad mini 4 and if that works then it's an issue with my iPad Pro 9.7.

Yep. Have a doubt it might be a pro specific bug.

I have tried the same project with the two instances of Poison-202 on my iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 and that has the no audio problem too. Maybe it's my copy of BeatMaker 3 that is buggy. I think I will report this as a bug to the Intua developer.

Send me the project file. I'm genuinely curious if it breaks on my iPad as well.

  • Try this:

    Go to scene mode.
Press on a cell to open the Bank pattern detail sidescreen
Near the bottom press the "play song" bar
You might need to do this for each bank.
    Go back to song mode
Make sure the playhead is set to the beginning of the song.
    Press play.

When you are doing stuff in scene mode, you apparently automatically end up flipping the default "play song" off so that the scene stuff takes priority. It doesn't have a way of knowing that you want to go back to the song as priority unless you reactivate the "play song" bar. (At least as far as I understand it so far.)

I followed your solution but it still doesn't work. I am still not getting any audio. I recorded the Poison-202 AUv3 plugins instantly using just the linear sequencer.

  • I'm having the same problem on IPad Pro 9.7, I'm using multiple instances of ReSlice AU, Other sessions work fine!

  • edited July 2017

So it looks like Poison-202 isn't the only AU plugin that causes the no audio playback bug once the project is reopened. I am really disappointed with Intua over this. With over 2 years it took to create this app I was hoping that the app would of been virtually bug free but it looks like a few AUv3 plugins are not working properly which is a big deal. Obviously the beta testers didn't test every AUv3 plugins out there so this is the reason for the bugs.

My only workaround over this is by just sampling the sounds on the affected plugins using BM3's excellent sampling capabilities until Intua fix this issue.

I have sent an email to the developer about this issue.

  • edited July 2017

There seems to be more bugs to this. I tried making about four instances of Addictive Pro AUv3 plugins and the same no audio issue happens when reopening the session. I then tried making four instances of Phasemaker AUv3 plugins and I save the session. However when a I open that session BM3 crashes and the whole screen freezes. This is unacceptable. More time should of been made on this before the release to the public.

  • @5pinlink said:
Blaming beta testers isn't fair, they test for free and cant possibly own all software, and as has been stated, Samu was testing with ten instances of Poison 202 with no issues.

Intua should just be calling this what it is, a public beta, it isnt ready for prime time, but lets see if they fix it ;)

Right! Intua should invite more people to test their public beta. I'm ready ;)

  • edited July 2017

I did further testing. It looks like when running multiple instances of the same AUv3 plugin on BM3 then BM3 runs into trouble with no audio playback or it crashes. However, audio playback works as normal even when reopening the session if running multiple instances of different AUv3 plugins.

If you had carefully read my comment you would of realised that I mentioned that the beta testers obviously didn't have every AUv3 plugins available to test this and I wasnt blaming them. I was just mentioning it as a probable reason. The version Samu used probably worked better than the finished product.
