I bought an Arturia Microbrute from the USA last year, listed at $145.00....

That would have been a pretty good price. Used microbrutes go for about $200 here in the San Francisco Bay Area

Just had a look at the invoice, it was £145.00 + postage, sorry my mistake..........with postage it came to £182.19. The exchange rate was really good in June 2015 when i got it so it was a pretty good deal.........shame about the bloody V.A.T!!!!!!!!

It's all coming back to me now like a bad dream! There is more to it than just the V.A.T. There is an import tax, which came to about 10 quid ( This varies depending on the cost of the item ). On top of that the Post Office (might have been Parcel Force ) charge a handling fee, and will not deliver until it is payed.........that turned out to be massively complicated, and involved five or six phone calls.........which are on a premium number, and wiped out my PAYG credit twice......then the bloody thing got sent back to the depot in Crawley, because i was out when they tried to deliver it.........I really don't recommend that anyone from the U.k. buys a "bargain" musical instrument from the U.S.A. Pitbull Audio in California were great, .....it was just this end that was a nightmare.........God only knows what it will be like once Brexit kicks in.....i can't imagine it will get easier...........

That's an amazing price, would that get taxed if buying from Europe?

Almost certainly. Worth noting that US prices are always quoted without tax...

Almost certainly not. Sales taxes are state taxes. Who would they send the tax too if the order went to Europe?

What about buying hardware in Europe and shipping to the US? Do we pay VAT or does the shipper?

Hardware and software is usually more expensive in Europe.
€219 over here and $199 in the US is a typical constellation. Which would be $258

    Yeah but those prices are:
    $199 PLUS tax
    vs €219 INCLUDING tax

Of course sales tax here is rarely as high as VAT in Europe.

That's an amazing combo you'll have there. I'm pondering either the Ultimate update, or a second hand Mk1 s45.

  • Red Dog Music are doing some good combo deals with Komplete and NI hardware ie Mashine or Kontrol.
