About 30 years ago I visited a musician friend at his flat in Stoke-on-Trent. He had about twenty keyboards, drum machines and whatnot hooked up to some sort of early MIDI controller (Atari, maybe?), and gave a Vangelis style performance, before I shuffled back, dejectedly to my own place with its one MS20 and wonky echo unit to make a few Hawkwind - like squeaks and bubbles.
He was a good guy though, and as he was going away for a while, lent me a load of his gear to play with.
I tried for weeks to connect that lot up, but not a sausage. When he came back to pick it up I lied and said I’d had a great time with everything MiDI’d up. And since then I’ve shied away from this terrible thing they call ‘MIDI’.
Mr Brambos, you have helped me achieve a 30 year old ambition to get everything connected up, thank you.
Ok thanks, but it would be much more « playable » as in « playing a music instrument » with scrolling isn’t it. And the ultimate point of that design choice would be to make it midi controllable, just like both Ruismaker sequencer.
I was expecting the same level of functionnality of your previous apps to be honest. Same for bassline sequencer and troublemaker.
I can make it MIDI-controllable. Not a huge issue. I'll put it on the list. But after having experimented with it, I feel that programming (especially) the Euclidean sequencer using discrete +/- values is more user friendly than using a rotary knob.
Midi control would be great as it gives you more options with which type of interface to use. I find using knobs on the Euclidean sequencer fun and it's also handy having hardware buttons for the mutes (or on a different ipad etc).
Thanks!
The Odessa Suite makes me wish there were more 'keyboards' in AUM to control all the instances
(I think on an Air 2 it would be possible to stack at least 5 of the current-sized on-screen keyboards).
I second this. Please let us do midi. Even if it's fiddly
Specially for the lfo controls. So much goodness if we can map those controls to something else or even make them automate each other.
@brambos I'm curious if you have any plans for a piano roll style sequencer? (sorry if this has already been asked/answered)
hello everybody! odessa is a blast! want to use it as a midi input in audiobus3 but odessa dont shows up... all the other brambos beautys are there but no odessa... am i wrong that it should work? btw thank you brambos for all these stunning apps!
Right now AUM is the first host to support MIDI Audio Unit plugins, so it's correct that they don't show up in the MIDI lane of Audiobus 3 yet. But there are probably ways to feed the MIDI into AB3 via AUM (haven't tried this yet).
you need mfadapter right now to do that. but it works
MIDI effect apps work with this?
I guess you only can use MIDI effect or manipulation apps in Audiobus3?
I never used them much because of my workflow, but, now with this app I see some uses.
The MIDI-flow app series stuff and some of the others?
Hope this wasn't discussed.
I'm hoping that someone creates some nice MIDI AUv3 FX that can be loaded in AUM just like these odessa modules
It would be nice to be able have a channel in AUM.....load a MIDI generator (Odessa) into the top node and then MIDI FX into the FX slots currently used for audio...
Asking again- anyone tried Odessa/AUM in iPhone 6 or 6 Plus?
I'm not upgrading the iPad Air 2 to 11 but really want to try this new modular DAW.
Hopefully someone can assure me a setup on the phone with some complexity will fly
I’m on an iPhone SE small screen and I’m able to work with all the plugins perfectly! I’d imagine works better on yours . I’m on latest IOS.
@brambos the questions and feature requests are going to come in thick and fast but I just want to pause and say 'nice work!!'.
Odessa is an innovative release that's really going to turn on some lights in iOS. Looking forward to where this goes.
Big up @j_liljedahl for a solid assist too!
Yep, just tried it on my SE and it’s small, but perfectly usable, and as the SE is more powerful than my Air 2 is should run more apps.
Wow really? Didn’t know that.
Yeah I was surprised too, but the comparison charts show it’s about 25% more powerful. I can run three Model 15 AU’s on it, compared to 2 (with crackles) on the Air 2.
Just had the Rhythm AU triggering a drum Gadget, Bassline triggering a couple of Gadget synths and DRC, and LFO tweaking the Gadget synth filters.
This is really very good, and I may actually start using Gadget again - though via AUM and Odessa.
Quick question about the arp: if I hold two notes and click Latch, the notes include more than those two. Anything I can do? I have it set to the default (1 octave, etc).
Good information thanks! I have Alchemy on the phone but I'll give it up as I still have it on the iOS 10 Air 2
I'm not getting that. The latch is a 'cumulative' latch though—notes keep getting added until it's turned off. Sure you didn't play some notes again after hitting it?
@brambos Would be great to one day see Latch and Latch+. Latch+ would work like the current version, Latch would reset the notes when new notes come in.
I spent a fair amount of time last night (after I figured out how to get DM1 & DM2 running) trying to map Odessa's LFO to the Pulse Width parameters in Zeeon. I know this can be done within Zeeon itself through the mod matrix, but I was just using this as a way to learn how to route Odessa to other MIDI destinations.
I wasn't able to get this sorted. Anyone got the details on MIDI mapping in AUM? I went into MIDI Control, chose Zeeon (Channel 1) and went to Parameters. I mapped L1 LFO 1 Wave to CH 3 (Odessa LFO) cc 13 (first LFO) and L1 LFO 2 WAVE to cc 15, made sure the Odessa LFO was showing the same cc channels and.....
Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nuttin'.
What am I missing?
One day I vow I will no longer be a Midiot.
Upgraded to 11 last night. Odessa is a blast. I was under the impression that I could transpose the rhythm sequencer via the AUM keyboard but couldn't find a way to do it. Am I just missing something?
Only Bassline can be transposed now. What would be the use case for transposing Rhythm (considering most drums are mapped to specific keys)?
@dvlmusic Tick Odessa Lfo as 'midi source' in 'menu' / 'midi ctrl' settings (and as midi source on the aum instr. channel zeeon@Ch1 midi settings) ...
