I’m on an iPhone SE small screen and I’m able to work with all the plugins perfectly! I’d imagine works better on yours . I’m on latest IOS.

Asking again- anyone tried Odessa/AUM in iPhone 6 or 6 Plus?

I'm not upgrading the iPad Air 2 to 11 but really want to try this new modular DAW.
Hopefully someone can assure me a setup on the phone with some complexity will fly

Yep, just tried it on my SE and it’s small, but perfectly usable, and as the SE is more powerful than my Air 2 is should run more apps.

Good information thanks! I have Alchemy on the phone but I'll give it up as I still have it on the iOS 10 Air 2

I updated my Air 2 to iOS11 yesterday (for Odessa). I haven't got Alchemy so that wasn't an issue - but there is a very slight lag on screen rotation and a few other bits, and battery life has been hit a bit. My main complaint is that it seems slower to charge now - that happened with the SE too at first, so maybe there's something going on when you first update that affects charging speed. Hopefully it'll pick up like the SE.

I don't regret updating though - Odessa has sparked new life into my workflow - which is usually AUM based anyway, but there have been other benefits - it's able to trigger apps such as DM1, iElectribe and Gadget, which I've hardly touched this year, so they're getting a new lease of life. And Garageband too, the updates on that are really useful, so that one will be dragged out of the cupboard for a bit of noodling too. I can now also run (and record) two AU instances of Model 15 via AUM, it didn't like it at first but after a reboot is crackle free.

I was VERY nervous about updating, but glad I took the plunge.

Odessa is the first app that makes me want to be on 11. On the iPad I'm weighing SynthX, Alchemy, Electrify NXT, metaDJ, studioHD, and a few non music items against the new app. (I don't have a way to keep them elsewhere)

I don't need the iPhone for safe haven, hence the query.

  • @dvlmusic How did you get DM2 running? I was using the XoX with the DM2 template last night, but I was only able to get one of the drum sounds to work. The cow bell (which is probably the only one that anyone really needs). Should all sounds be triggered if one is?

@brambos Is there a manual available? Will there be one? I imagine it is a massive task for an app of this scale. Hopefully there will be more tutorials on the way so I can try to figure it out. I am struggling mainly with routing.

I had to do a couple things.

    1) Clear all the MIDI settings on the Pads page - this resets them back to their default MIDI cc note
    2) Choose the DM1/DM2 MIDI map in XoX by scrolling down (I didn't even realize the list scrolled at first!)
    3) In DM2, go to the songs page and choose IAA. There you'll have to turn on the "receive notes" thing so that DM2 can "hear" XoX

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. If this doesn't do it for you, let me know and I'll open AUM to dig around and see how I got it going.

  • Disappointed that the Pro 10.5 crashes while trying to run Zeeon and mood sequenced by two basslines, Ruismaker sequenced by an X0X, an instance of Foldr and one of Quatro
Mod, and me playing a live Phosphor. I know this isn’t the Bram Bos apps’ fault, just sayin.

  • I read the bit about controlling ED with rhythm and XOX back on page 11, but all I can get it to do is play patterns. Was hoping there was a way to trigger drum hits.

  • @brambos said:
Got it! I’ll add transposable Rhythm to the requests list

    Sweeeet. Thank you!

    @Carnbot said:
Yeah I use the Odessa Rhythm for melodic sequences too :). Transpose would be great. I've been routing into Audiobus 3 and using Midlflow and then back into AUM. You can transpose each channel in AUM too.

That's the plan to investigate tonight. Thanks.

That should work too; I’ve done it. But setting up ED can be a bit fiddly, you need to get its settings exactly right.

  • So looks like interdevice midi between an AUM on iPhone (w/Odessa on iOS 11), can sequence apps hosted by another AUM on another device - (my Air 2 on iOS whatever)

  • @dvlmusic Thanks. That was it. I had set up my ControlXL to control the drones in DM2, which had messed with all midi mappings. Sadly I had to delete them all... but Odessa is worth it :)

  • Love the way Odessa works with rhe iFretless apps!

Check your Midi mappings. I found that the notes from the template were mapped on the jam page and that I had no mappings to the note pads on the instr page. Since I sorted the mappings it works for me.

Nvm, need to investigate more, but no time now.

How do you send midi from one device to another?

  • Does odessa have midi learn? Of not is there any level of control by external midi controllers available?

Where relevant MIDI input is possible: triggering patterns, transposing sequences, etc. I'm looking into making the Euclidean editor MIDI controllable.

Frankly there are not a lot of 'tweakable' parameters in the first place. Most of it is set-and-forget. But I'm open for suggestions.

Lfo rate. Lfo mod. Just these 2 plz D:

@brambos I imagine it's probably also the limitation of AUv3 that you can only have one icon? It would be handy to have different icons, at least a derivative of the icon for each element of the suite to make it easier when navigating.

This maybe something Jonatan could address if it's not possible with AU. Currently the name is revealed when you slide the icon back, but maybe this could be more visible. (or at least in the options). :)

My current work around for this is to rename the channel.

@brambos Do you have a User Guide or Manual anywhere? I'm still trying to figure out how the whole sliding/bending not thing works in Bassline as I don't own Troublemaker.... might be useful for some of the others as well...

Sliding needs to be implemented on the end of the synth/plugin. Odessa will simply generate overlapping MIDI notes. Many monosynths interpret this as a trigger for a slide/legato. So the MIDI itself will not make an audible pitch-slide and it will not have much effect if the synth doesn't support it.

The ‘regular’ name for the control you need on your monosynth is portameno or porta or Porto, it can also be called glide or slide.
This will control how quickly the slide happens.

yep, was thinking the same thing. If it were possible, at least some kind of color variation of the icons would be great to have

I think the Randomisers controlled by midi would be neat,
other than full midi control, being able to shift/slide each euclidean beat line across with finger would be great also if that's not been asked before.

Yes me too and I'm lining up all my midi generators to the right of my master bus for organisation. The upcoming AUM bookmarking system is really useful too for this :)

Having the step buttons on the drum sequencer be midi controllable would be great. I’m yet to find an app that allows this

Every possible parameters! Playing music is all about tweaking physical things, period!

AUM midi can access other devices via Bluetooth

The latch is a 'cumulative' latch though—notes keep getting added until it's turned off.

    Oh that sucks.

What's the reasoning for that? None of the arps on my MIDI controllers are cumulative. Once you hit a note on them, they reset.

  • It sounds good to me, but then I don’t know a thing. But when I change chords it does reset for me.

Fun things about Odessa so far: midi from AUM Odessa on iPhone (iOS 11) drives AUM and apps on iPad (ios10). Via BT...

Odessa midi map for iElectribe works on iElectribe for iPhone...

I'm not sure where but I've run into this type of latch before. I dig it–it can do things that are hard/impossible on standard arps that reset. I would really dig having both modes available though. :)

Apesoft and aum keyboard have this kind of latch

Ah, I only tried the AUM keyboard with it. I'll try my MIDI keyboard and see if that makes a difference.

    Update: no difference.

I guess you got me wrong: I was saying about cumulative latch mode where the previous notes do not drop on successive hits instead of memorizing a chord and dropping it with the next chord pressed
