This awesome project has really grown. V0.5 coming out in the next day or so. Also an Ableton Link module on the way so you can jam with your iPad.
Very very cool.
I posted these links in another thread but worth putting here too:
Source Windows/Mac/Linux: https://vcvrack.com/
Plugins: http://www.switchedonrack.com/modules-monitor.html
Patches: https://patchstorage.com/platform/vcv-rack/
FB user group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/vcvrack/
Was wondering when this would pop up here. Was about to make a thread myself if there wasn't one already after 0.5 comes out.
Nice find, first time I am seeing it
It is so amazing. I feel like Winter is saved for me haha. I love the whole architecture of it, the scalable nature, that is not just a vst. It enables totally new setups, using your computer in a very different way, if you have a multichannel interface you can do a lot of stuff...
Yeah VCV is absolutely amazing. Beats the stripes off Blocks IMO. I heard it’s getting a VST bridge (not wrapper though) but even without it it’s super useful. I do a lot of sound design and the best thing is to just set the outputs recording, have fun and chop up the results later. Amazing software.
you can actually use soundflower or jack to route 8ins/8outs between a daw and vcvrack even without a mulitchannel interface. personally i use my ica4+ to send audio between ableton, vcvrack and my 0-coast/volcas. (stuff like gates can actually be sent out to modular synths even with balanced outputs) its bloody fun
VCV is great indeed. I think this has a chance to get a huge community as well. There is already a lot going on.
I will make more use out of it too if there will be an AU.
They're planning on releasing a vst bridge with 1.0. it will basically send virtual audio and midi between your daw and the app without needing anything else. There is also an ableton link module coming up soon
Holy Guacamole, how did I miss this rabbit hole of awesomeness?
Installed today on my ancient laptop, running great ...
https://github.com/VCVRack/Rack/issues/207 iOS port discussion because yay open source.
Squeeeee......I just wet myself.
The outlook isn't great but at least it's being discussed.
" I would bet that 99% of existing Audulus users would buy VCVrack in a flash."
Darn tooting, no conflict there. They would co-exist quite happily for me.
I've just installed all the freebie plugins, I'm off down the rabbit hole ...
@syrupcore yea.....guess I should have read the thread before getting too excited. Kinda related but not really.....I wrote Arturia about porting the Buchla. Received a very nice and timely reply.....no go. Too cpu heavy they say. Will log the request.
If I was a rich man, I’d have a wall of modular.
I'm not even starting on the hardware route, I know where my GAS would take me ... Besides it's easier on iOS to sneak some tech in under the radar of the Head Of Household Finances ...
I've been enjoying VCV, it looks to have a good community around it, rock solid too for an early release.
it‘s a very stable and intuitive platform, or virtual racksystem, that can teach you a lot about the principles. VCV is really recommendable as it contains not only fundamental modules like VCO, VCF, ADSR, and VCA, it also has some very interesting digital modules included.
I‘m very interested in VCV. I was using it often when I was away from my studio, and could somehow continue my work on this platform. Even now that I‘m back in my studio I use VCV regularly.
But why the hell it so cpu hungry even with no modules
This was bugging me too on my older, but by no means ancient, laptop.
Turns out huge optimisations have been occurring, this thread is very techie but offers hope for future builds ...
