The Beatles, from beyond....

Lots of posters and lurkers here may already know about this, but for those thumb twiddling in the never land between Xmas and New Year who haven’t heard, this is a great time filler.

The idea is a chap who claimed to have travelled to a parallel dimension, where the Fab Four never split up and are still touring/ making records. There he stole a cassette. Fun little story, but more importantly a brilliant mash up album.

‘Everyday Chemistry.’

Based on the notion that all four Beatles still created what we know as their solo works, just collectively. :)

The whole album can be downloaded for free, or streamed on site.

New one for me, ta, will make some time to listen to this when the festive hubbub has abated.

I've listened through first 6 tracks and found it rather painful. I applaud author's courage though, even if it doesn't really add up musically. It often feels like 2 or 3 different records playing all at once, which effectively what it is.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I wanted to like this and share it with some friends. I didn’t.

I appreciate the post, though. I’m always intrigued by anything Beatle related. Thanks @Zen210507.

No worries. What is music to one set of ears....

BTW, if you’ve not seen this one already, here’s ‘The Beatnix’ performing Led Zep as the Fabs.

Yep, I took that to be the point. :)

Also among my all time favourites. Especially Barry Wom. :p

If you haven’t seen this comparison, song for song, you will find it intriguing,

Different. Some of it clever-ish, some quite horrible to my ears, but well worth its place as an alternate Fab Four.

  • These are other Beatles simulated songs:

I believe someday they will try to make a complete CGI Beatles concert, hope not.

Less convincing, more Klaatu than Silver Beatles, but definitely in the style. :)

Along with other greats, for sure. Actually, there are some very interesting possibilities, if there is also decent creative control at work. That will be where the problems of doing such deeds impact the most.

  • I saw McCartney live 3 weeks ago..he is handling the Beatles legacy very very nicely indeed. Highlights included Love me do, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, Helter Skelter, A Day in the Life and the last few tracks of Abbey Road.
It was a phenomenal concert , a tribute to the other Beatles and a reminder of the magnitude of McCartney's role as innovator, motivator and experimenter .

Pleased to hear you enjoyed it so much, and that he’s still a credible performer.

  • Always liked the ruttles better than the Beatles.

  • Utopia’s 1980 album Deface The Music is the best alternate-universe Beatles homage album.

“...but it would be another five years until they found their drummer, Barrington Womble, hiding in the van. They persuaded him to change his name to save time, and his haircut to save Brylcreem. He became simply, Barry Wom. Success was only a drumbeat away!”

It is indeed a superb work. In particular the tracks ‘Alone’ and ‘Life Goes On.’

Yes! “Alone” and “Crystal Ball”. My favs. Also “All Smiles” (which is like alternate universe “Michelle”).

This album made no sense and whizzed right past me when it came out. Then when I discovered it almost 20 years later it was like unearthing a lost Beatles album and a lost Utopia album all at once.

I was lucky enough to be in the right place and time, listening to a John Peel show, when ‘Deface the Music’ was first released. Long time since I had the physical album, but I still recall the humourous graphic from the back cover ‘Utopia, outstanding in their field.’ :)

BTW, if you haven’t already heard, try looking up tracks by The Pleasers, on YouTube. For my money, the best original Beatles inspired music. Especially ‘You Don’t Know’ and ‘Stay With Me.’ Like missing tracks from John & Paul’s songbook.

Ha! Oh I knew about it at the time. My friend and bandmate had the record, but I just thought Todd and the boys had lost their marbles. Not the first time Todd’s endless musical morphing appetites got ahead of his audience.

I have heard about The Pleasers but don’t really know any of their tunes. Will check out those specific tunes.

Also, in terms of new groups keeping the retro faith in 2017, there’s The Lemon Twigs. Not exclusively Beatles-inspired— Beach Boys, early Floyd, Queen ... lotsa classic elements, but a good dose of Beatles and general British Invasion, fronted by two multi-talented young brothers who are barely 18.

Think I’ve told you this before but vaguely remember seeing them live in a pub somewhere, when I was a teenager. As a confirmed Beatle-Head I enjoyed it immensely.

I’ve seen Neil Innes do a few Ruttle tracks live over the years too.

    Yes, I remember you saying.

I think I saw The Pleasers five or six times, back in the day. The best being an invite to a record company promo in a local hotel. The trollies of booze just kept coming, and with my teen constitution I could take it, then it was all down to the venue for a spirited gig. Great times, great tunes.
