Drum Machine/Sampler with own samples: iPhone

Hi all,

I've been looking for a good drum machine / sampler for iPhone for awhile now that will let me import my own samples and create my own kits.

I love DM1, however the iPhone version does not let me create my own kits and samples. The iPad version does and it is perfect.
I like to create drum patterns when I'm in cabs etc so having a simple drum machine with my own kits would be amazing.

Does anyone have recommendations?

    FunkBox, BeatMachine, BM2, and Nanostudio (if you're on iOS 10 or below) all fit the bill.

    Elastic Druns does too but that's a bit of a stretch (awesome as it is).

    I should state - I'm hoping to be able to import drum sounds via Files or AudioShare as opposed to iTunes import.
    Am I asking too much here?

    I am all about TriqTraq when it comes to making quick and easy beats and patterns on the train. Really fun and immediate app with support for sample and kit import. Can use AudioPaste, iTunes, and AudioShare for import.

    Elastic Drums when I want to mangle samples, add synths sounds, experiment a bit more.

    Caustic was made for phones. Needs some updating but still works with Audioshare last I checked. The free Documents app by Readdle allows you to access all of Caustic's folders via its built-in FTP server.

    1. Fingerbeats supports files however it dropbox export is broken but it meets all your other requirements.
    2. Vatanator SX also imports via Files,Dropbox ,audiocopy.
    3. imachine allows sample import via audiocopy.

    Grooverider makes a fine drum machine with sample import, fx, automation, and you can do way more than Drums if you want. Also you have all the groove templates, velocity randomization, number of steps per part, etc. The phone layout works great for me. Supports Audioshare and files app.

    no worries.. round robin is when the sample on a pad cycles automatically through layers of samples on a pad or list of samples either randomly or consecutively or any particular order determined by a setting in the app.

    There is also a % setting that you can select per individual beat for each drum instrument to set the probability that it will sound whilst playing- which creates a randomness.

    Sorry for reviving an ancient thread but I've been trying to find something that I can really dig into making loops / bits in my phone to build a library for later use, mostly in Jamm Pro but also everywhere else...

    Necessary things for me:

    Pattern editor
    Per step reverse
    Some basic pitch / velocity control
    Tap drag painting of notes
    User Samples
    Rendering / export of loops
    Micro notes/stutters

    Desirable:

    Filters / FX
    Synth drums
    Randomising

    I've been going through my apps and have eliminated the following:

    NS2 - really close but no per step reverse
    GR-16 - want to love this but it's just too fussy feeling
    Koala - love this and use it a lot but no pattern editor...
    Electribe wave - nearly nearly, feels a bit slow to use...
    BM2 - maybe but feels well clunky
    Digistix - got this cause I though it was the one but just silly things keep me from using it - the buttons that control the ties / stutters on the wrong window for a start, those damn knobs for others, and I can't for the life of me figure out if it even exports loops 🤣

    I'm a right fussy so and so but anyone any ideas? It's elastic drums or eg pulse I guess?

    Elastic drums with IAP for samples is my choice for iphone - great UX - developer is also now looking as AU

    This might come as a shock to some, but on my iPhone 8 I actually enjoy using iMPC Pro 2 for iPhone...
    (It's got Files.app support so no need to use AudioCopy to import samples, just use Files.app and put them inside the iMPC Pro 2 folder structure).

    The one I forgot to list as a possibility was zenbeats, I've been playing with the demo and quite like it but the trauma that's excised in the threads about it really put me off, on paper it's ace and the demo is pretty simple and nice to use...

    Yeah, AudioCopy is really only needed if you want more 'factory content'.
    All the exports you do in iMPC Pro 2(even when it says AudioCopy) are rendered to files that can be accessed using Files.app or dragged back to pads for further slicing and dicing.

    But it does have it's gotchas like no way to 'transpose down' the pads when using AUv3's (Pads start at C3 and can't be transposed down, so one has to use the keyboard for lower notes).

    Also the piano rolls gestures can get get some time to get used to.

    But overall it's quite fun app to use on the iPhone :)
