  • So where can I find an older version? Should I install it via iTunes? Sorry for dumb questions never had to do this.

If you never saved the ipa then there isn't anything you can do. They are tied to people's Apple ID so you can't use one from someone else. If you have an old ipa then I think you have to use iFunbox to install it.

  • I might have one in my pc when I did a backup. But how do I install it without deleting my user made presets? I have so many :(

For now I think the only way is jalibreaking your ipad and transferring the presets to your PC then back again on a reinstall

First our beloved Flying Haggis’s now this! What’s next? So unfair!

Would a kill switch be legal? I doubt it... Think someone mentioned there was a date bug earlier in the development which was fixed, maybe they undid this fix accidentally in the update.

    I hope it's the latter option :)

Hope so, or it could be an accidental thing - maybe the new version was tied to a server which is now offline, and the app needs to connect to this to run.

Speaking of legal issues, maybe there could be a deliberate off-switch to avoid possible future hacking attempts, since it's now unsupported? Last thing they want are a bunch of claims for compensation from hacked iPad owners.

We’ve often discussed on here taking our iPads offline and freezing them for long term use after a certain amount of time. I think this approach while useful, has many things that will make it more difficult as time goes by (Apples approach to storing old apps and OS, built in obsolescence of apps, longevity of upkeep due to financial restrictions, battery changing issues for older devices). Apple don’t really want long term apps or devices that sit back in time - they want us to continue buying and buying. Even much of the hardware market is cheap because it’s designed to last only so long. The age of built in obsolescence makes me think of buying more fishing tackle instead lol

That's my concern too. I've always thought that at least if I can't afford to buy new apps or devices, I can take my iPad offline and 'freeze' the current iOS and app content. If that's not the case, and there's the potential for them to stop working, then this isn't a viable platform for me and I'll stick to purchasing desktop software from now on.

Ah no I've found a way :) with 2 ipads. You can share your user presets on the 1.3.3 version so just back up all your user presets this way. I then can Airdrop them from one ipad with current z3ta to another one with old Z3ta on it and share presets this way. :)

And actually I just realised it may not remove all your presets on reinstall at all as I reinstalled on my Pro ipad which didn't have any custom presets anyway so that could be a false alarm...

  • When o moved from my old Air1 to the 2017 iPad I thought I had lost all my presets but when I downloaded the app from the App Store, there they were all intact. But don’t know if this applies to downgrading to older app.

  • 'ok so I tried a reinstall on my 3rd iPad a mini2 and it has kept all the presets intact. So that was a mistake earlier, it doesn't erase your custom presets, but back them up just in case if they are important as you never know :)

That's a weird and annoying coincidence it stops working now.

I managed to install the older version of Z3ta 1.3.2 again and it works. But obviously has all the bugs the final version fixed although I can't remember what they were now... i've gotten into the habit of backing up apps and keeping some older versions of problem apps sometimes pays off.

good to know. I have the old version as well somewhere so might reinstall that. I think sharing of presets was broken in that version, and presets needed two taps to open. Still, less of a hassle than resetting the date each time ...

Yeah and also when reinstalling it removed all my custom presets so back to square 1

Feel very disappointed. The illusion of permanence. Particularly fed-up about the presets I had made/refined. I suppose there's a chance that someone/somewhere/somehow will reboot it, but breath will not be held.

You can backup your presets and importing them into old version works but only if you managed to save the old version of Z3ta. Re-install doesn't erase presets after all. (but backup anyway)

  • How can I tell the version I saved?

Ipa will have version number 1.3.3 is last one

  • Ok I really hope I saved 1.32 version

  • Oh can I install the old version with iTunes?

  • @MusicMan4Christ said:

I think so yes, but I use ifunbox/imazing.
If you copy over the current ipa with the older one in your iTunes app library you should be able to reinstall with that one. Although make sure you keep a backup copy of both old and new versions.

  • So if I do a backup of my current install with iTunes will it overwrite my old one in the pc?

  • @MusicMan4Christ said:

Yes, you need to look in the folder of your iTunes library where it backs up your ipas and then if the old one is there copy it to a different folder to back it up.

  • Ok will do. I hope I did t overwrite my old one when I updated iPad.

Man I dug and dug for the ipa File and found it! It’s version 1.3.2 but I had probably backed it up from my old Air1, will it still work?

Oh by the way could you give me some pointers for best possible error free install?

best to use iFunbox, under "managing app data" tab there's an install app (ipa) button select that and browse for the 1.3.2 file.
But make sure you keep both versions of the ipa in case you need them again.

  • I think I have an old version of iFunbox but will update first. any issues with using it latest IOS?

Thnks for all your help man that’s so awesome!

  • Oh by the way are we able to install Z3TA presets again with iFunbox? I have a ton from the web but never got around to installing them.

  • No unfortunately z3ta can only install presets one by one as you can’t access the folders they live in. I sometimes have issues with ifunbox and windows 10, but usually it works ok.
I’d recommend backing up your presets first before reinstalling by using the share icon in z3ta. They should still be there after reinstalling but you never know :)

  • Yeah thanks I did that yesterday one at a time to Dropbox. Bummer we can’t access the folders anymore :( but at least a way to keep it alive was found which is awesome!

  • Was able to reload 1.3.2 Version with iFunbox! Worked great! And didn’t erase all my user folders which was so awesome!
Only thing iFunbox didn’t backup my 1.3.4 app, it said it did but when I checked it wasn’t there. Oh well, z+ working again.

Oh good :) well the current version is pretty useless now anyway until they update it again, the only thing it's good for is exporting presets which the older version crashes when you try I think.

  • Phew... thanks all, it took a few days to dig out an old drive and check. Found IPA.... have sound again! :)

  • Yeah that sounds great! I had to dig mine out too. For some reason iFunbox is not allowing to save ipa anymore even though it tells you it did. But the sound of this magestic synth is absolutely amazing! I really hope it comes back so everyone can jump on it again even as an AU. Hoping :(

    @Carnbot - why is Z3TA+ useless?
It take 15-20 seconds to start it with the datething (and the sound is there), so, what's the problem?

It's a fantastic synth, by the
    way...
