How can I tune to 528Hz?

There's lots of meditation type music videos on youtube which are at specific frequencies, for example 528.
I've got several synths where its possible to set the reference tuning from 440 to something else, however the range is limited such as 420-480.
How can I tune a synth to be able to play a note at this, or other specific frequencies such as 528?

    Why not play a C5, which is 523.25Hz? Should be close enough for any purpose.

    @mungbeans: The math behind note frequencies is rather simple:

    F = {[(2)^1/12]^n} * 220 Hz

    F: frequency of note; n: number of half-steps from the base frequency, 220 = base frequency.

    So you can answer your question by rearranging the equation accordingly.

  • @Samu: :) What I did was find a table with note frequencies in "normal" tune (440 Hz), find the closest "normal" note to 528 Hz (which was C5 at 523 Hz or so), and then do 440 * (528/523) :)

  • Yeah 432hz is referring to the A of the usual A440 tuning. 528hz is the frequency of the C when you use A444 tuning. It was confusing at first for me as well, as I previously thought the reference frequency was for an A note in all tuning system names.

    That’s a C# in A432 tuning.

  • The mystical "tuning to a specific frequency" rhetoric is mostly pointless IMO. If you want to be in tune with the universe, then tune to the overtone series, which usually means some form of just intonation. The universe doesn't care what frequency your root is.

    The harmonic series is a real, measurable phenomenon. You can learn to hear it, sing it, and play in it. It's immensely rewarding to do so.

    Yeah, I don’t buy into the new age mumbo-jumbo either. But I am open to the possibility that specific frequencies can effect you or your environment in different, specific ways.
    It may not put you music in tune with the universe, but it could put it in tune with humans.

    Whether certain frequencies have mumbo jumbo new age properties associated with them or have measurable or perceived effects on yourself or "heal your dna" etc. I neither believe nor disbelieve and have an open mind.

    However there are certain sounds and/or frequencies that affect me, and as it is me they are affecting I can 100% testify to their affect. Certain sounds or frequencies can instantaneously make me feel relaxed and calm, no doubt about it and no mumbo jumbo about that. I can feel it, therefore I know it.

    I very strongly first noticed this many years ago in a yoga class, during the warm down the yoga instructor hit a small bell. The sound was calming and relaxing and mesmerizing and intoxicating.
    I think it was probably a similar smaller version in bell form of a Tibetan Singing bowl, which I also find a very pleasing sound.
    Anyway I have decided to start to analyze the sounds and frequencies that I like and affect me, and have a go at making some sort of "new age", for want of a better term, music myself. Over the past couple of years I've purchased about about 40 iPad synths and demoed a similar number of Mac synths to determine which ones are capable of easily creating the sounds I'm interested in (I don't really believe the mantra that you can make any sound you want with any synth as long as you know what you are doing).

    @CracklePot I don't mind sharing at all, but it might be a while before I have anything which I am satisfied with as I have decades of experience of fiddling with music, but none previously with this type and I'm going to have to spend a long time experimenting with relevant production and mixing techniques for that particular genre in addition to the actual sounds themselves.

    So any synth which let you tune the main frequeny will get you there.
    I wonder what happens then if you use pitch modulations.
    Anyway most acoustic instruments are not holding an exact fixed frequency anyway.
    But in general i believe in sounds creating certain things with our brain and each human is different here.
    But i wonder often about if the main frequency does make a difference if you start to add FX and modulations which creats new harmonic or inharmonic content and/or adding or removing frequencies, overtones etc.
    For me it‘s mostly about harmonies of frequencies.
    But i have an open mind here and i also like to experiment with tunings and microtunings and i find that different tunings can achieve a very wide range of feelings and emotions as well.
    Just do what you think will work.
    There are no rules....if.....just break them.

  • @mungbeans Hey, I didn’t mean to offend with my mumbojumbo quip. I agree that frequency affects matter, and since we are matter, frequency must affect us. The mumbojumbo quip was directed toward the many reasons given as to why this occurs. I also have personally experienced the affects of frequency, and have been interested in the subject for about 30 years, but I haven’t found a good explanation as to why it occurs at all.

    I was just acknowledging that there is a lot of BS in regard to frequencies, tunings, and what it all means. But the new age BS doesn’t mean the underlying phenomenon is also BS. That is the point I was trying to make. B)
