Is it or will it be possible to change the speed without affecting the pitch? That would be useful for me...

    +1 Yes please!

This is an amazing app. I made a simple melodic loop in Alchemy and pasted it into Audioshare before importing it into Sector. I made a few Markov and warp modifications, but pushed the step sequencer to make the 1-9-17-25 steps regular so the loop didn't go entirely off the reservation. Then I played over the top of it in Alchemy and recorded what I was doing in there (so the new pattern would repeat), before timing a beat coming in in Drumjam and adding some drum pads with the Bedlam feature active. Oh, and AUFX Dub was running in the Effects slot of Audiobus this whole time. It was woozy, it was awesome, it went on for 10 minutes before I thought, 'Ah, maybe I should have recorded this as live in Cubasis'.

I'll be doing something similar later and will upload it!

Jonatan, the interface is superb and really well thought out. One possible improvement I can think of, other than the MIDI sync you have already implemented for the forthcoming update, would be to allow us to have more than one 'track'. It would be great to be able to independently sequence a drum line and a melody line at the same time, for example. I don't know how much this would impact on the CPU requirements, though! Also, even though it's easy enough to record the output into a separate app, a record function inside Sector would be nice. Finally, if we could paste a loop directly from the pasteboard into the app, that would be lovely (cutting out the Audioshare step).

  • I've just been sitting here listening to the same Nave loop for the last 10 minutes running through AUFX:Dub flanger and AUFX:Space.

I would kill to have two instances of this at the same time. Guess I'll have to go buy another iPad now.

@Michael_R_Grant thanks for the idea on the 1-9-17-25 thing!

  • @ChrisG Yes Turnado allows you to set BPM, but midi clock sync would make it MUCH more useable. I used it in a live set last week and I would have preferred being able to sync it with the incoming signal (from djay2) instead of spending time setting the BPM.

Looking forward to using Sector live, but yes, clock sync would be very useful.

  • Hopefully configurable cross fade is coming as well, so it can be used for more ambienty/pad/drone sounds.

  • This app is great for sound design, just got to reserve some time for playing.

I get rock solid midi syncing from Turnado and Effectrix when I use them with LoopyHD
and best thing is I never even bother to check the settings they just work.

  • Really enjoying this— so many possibilities. However, I would like a little more help in orienting myself to the sectors so that I can bend them to my will. It would be nice to be able to easily preview sectors while the loop is not running, since the waveform visuals are pretty simplified and difficult to discern one from another at times. Anybody figured out a way to do this without assigning it to one of the four trigger buttons and playing while it's running?

  • I can really recommend this in-depth review of SECTOR, it's better than the users guide! :)
    http://www.musicappblog.com/sector-review/

@aaronpc Yes, my plan is that the trigger buttons could play the assigned sectors one-shot while the engine is stopped, instead of auto-starting it. Then at least it's only a two-finger action: tap a trigger button and then tap a sector (you don't need to wait for the message to pop up). The alternative is to have sectors play as you select them, while the engine is stopped. But I'm afraid that could interfere, maybe you want to program stuff while it's stopped without making noises? Could be an option, I guess.

As always, I'm very interested in feature requests! I have a lot of my own for this app already, and nice to see you they overlap with the wishes of the community, and get ideas of how to best implement the user experience.

  • Two taps is fine, or even a multitouch— preview sectors as you press-hold a trigger button, last chosen is set. I definitely wouldn't want it to always be on. Looking forward to whatever you decide.

  • This goes DEEP ... I'm lost down the rabbit hole.... My wife has no interest in me explaining what all the lines and probability mean ;)

  • This thing is versatile! I'm geeking out over here.

My only suggestion thus far is a way to preview the sectors when it is not running. Perhaps a tap on sector for preview. Unless I'm missing some preview function...I don't know I literally downloaded and jumped right in. This speaks to how well laid out the UI is...very user friendly.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know in a few days!

  • 2 and 12 in Oz. It is a great product.

  • Here's a quick track made with SECTOR, Animoog, birdStepper, and AUFX:Dub in Audiobus.

  • Congrats on #1 @j_liljedahl!

  • yeah, I hate to involve a third app just for that, but I'll have to try it. @Multitouch said:

  • Does Sector have a shuffle/swing option ?

  • @DaveMagoo, currently no, maybe it will come in the future :)

  • I just got Sector and have only had a second to play with some of the preloaded loops but I was thinking it might have some kind of thing similar to Yellofier where you can view the audio file and move the slice points around and pick which sections to play. Maybe this isn't possible if all the slices need to be the same size which sometimes doesn't happen in Yellofier.

    Is this possible?

I can't wait to record some fingerpicking guitar loops to try in Sector and see what happens.

  • @yowza Currently the slice points are all set to make the sectors equal divisions of the loop.

  • @thinds Second place after Djay2 in Italy ...too.

    Good job, Jonatan :-)

Ahh to the wish list it goes :(

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing !

I look forward to the future ;)

  • This has its own thread but I'll stick it here too

  • Great app. Wonder how to avoid clicks. I tried 2 samples, both gave clicking sounds for 1 of the sectors each. What was strange is that changing number of sectors did not remove the clicks.
Are these sectors that begin with a high amplitude transient, just by chance according to how the sample is divided? Or is this another problem?

It sounds like that Sector of your audio clip is being chopped in the middle. I imported a clip into Sector that I had in AudioShare which originally came from Node Beat but I ended up needing to go back to AudioShare and carefully trim the clip and import that to make it sound right. Sector chops your clip into equal slices so you want it to be able to chop up the audio in a good sounding way.
    Hope that makes sense!!

    Duplicate

  • Am I missing something with IAA? I've been using this standalone mostly but just tried adding as an IAA instrument in Cubasis. I can't trigger start from Cubasis, so go to Sector to press play - it plays the loop until you go back to Cubasis, cue clicking noises and no background audio from Sector. Also the IAA transport in Sector shows very briefly then disappears.

    ??

  • Great app, buying for sure on the weekend! Maybe the dev could add in future version some manual slicing/chopping.

Please tell me the midi clock goes both out/in? At least out :)

This and Korg Gadget are way too addictive right now! I always get stuck longer inside these two apps then intended, for better or for worse...Everything just clicks in both apps, user interface and simplicity, which means getting stuff up and running faster, and navigating around the apps is a breeze and so on. Both got great design graphics wise, which do have an impact on how you experience an application (no matter what any audio snobs wants to believe;).

    • General Pasteboard would be nice to have though (a lot of times you do not want a middle hand to move a rendered loop from say Figure or whatever).

    • Clock sync in and out

    • Clear all option on the warp page (and perhaps a randomizer, could be fun, and would make the warp page more like the other two).

    • Another warp "effect" that lowers the volume on a slice. Would need two parameters, the regular probability slider, but also something that determines how much lower the audio is gonna be (I'm thinking on repeated snares, alternating volume would be a good thing). Perhaps 2-3 different volume "warps".

    • Preview slice/sector when not running would make things even more easier and faster. Maybe add it as an option in the menu, for people who don't want any noise if using it live.

  • I tried importing some 24bit 48k loops from AudioShare and it is appending some silence to the end of the loops. The silence isn't there in AS and loop perfectly but have a gap at the end in Sector. Is it an issue with the bit depth or sample rate?
