@Cib I know the distortion is very good and very controllable too, my little Seaboard Block is great, I just try that with the Model D too

Thank´s. There are a lot things which really just shine with a proper polyphonic distortion like organic sounds similar to saxophones and wonderful distorted guitar sounds etc. Especially in combination with higher filter resonance it can be awesome.
I also love me some poly distorted pads. Did i say i love distortion? Yes, i do!! :)

Glad to see the poly drive is getting some love!

Yup, everythings there. (expect for the preset browser I should add, that one's coming later)

I just don’t feel like the user should ever have to worry about this.

Hmm that's odd, presets created in the standalone version should be showing up in AU as well. What host have you been using?

That's most likely just the AppStore not realizing you've already purchased the app. I suggest to check the "purchased apps" section within the App Store, if it doesn't show up there please let me know and we'll figure something out.

Its not my earplugs that are at fault, they work perfectly with 50+ other apps. I had an identical problem to this with Magellan (its just not possible to use Magellan with any lightening connected earplug/earphones, they admitted on their website forum this was a fundamental lack of support within the app for that and apologized.).
I hope this is a bug in Volt that will be fixed if a future update rather than something more fundamental as it is with Magellan. I haven't tried Volt with Apple lightening earplugs, but Magellan doesn't work with Apple's.

So if you only have lightening earphones etc. purchase with caution, or monitor for future bug fixes/or support from the developer.

That's not good, obviously... I will look into, should be an easy fix.

A first update including a couple of minor bug fixes will be out in the coming days with a larger one adding iPhone support as well as a new shortly after

same for me too. lightning port crackles, and crash when saving presets

  • Hey guys,

    just a quick update.

VOLT v1.0.1 will be available later today including the following:

    • Presets: removed non working/app crashing save button from the user presets page (sorry about that!)
    • DSP: fixed an issue where portamento would not work properly while legato mode was activated
    • DSP: fixed an issue where the sawtooth oscillator would not work properly at very low notes
    • MIDI: fixed an issue where sending MIDI into VOLTs virtual input port was ignored
    • UI: fixed an issue where system gestures would interfere with touch tracking of the onscreen keyboard

v1.0.2 should be out sometime next week addressing:

    • Preset Browsing when running in AU mode (for all ya BM3 folks)
    • Lightning adapter crackling issues
    • Possibly iPhone support

  • A few more on screen keys, up to 3 octaves. Velocity mapped to where you touch the keys (higher up on the keys = less velocity), adjustable. Have the slide working on the keys as well, and an option to have the depth/amount relative to where you put your fingers. And I’m good:-). Top notch subtractive synth.

    ————

So many synths today completely misses the mark with the on-screen keys, while you can obviously hook up a controller, iOS music is also portable. And the glass surface can provide expressiveness when done right. Nave is still untouched in this area, the way the white and the black keys interact when you slide your fingers up and down, left and right (and the way it makes the entire screen an XY area for the fingers that travels from the keys, leaving room to adjust parameters with other fingers), the blades and so on. Propellerheads went above and beyond when designing the keyboard/blade UI for Thor. It’s so rare these days. Anyway sorry for going slightly off the rails here, I guess the seabord graphics reminded me of all that stuff.:-)

  • I have noticed that movements up and down the on-screen keys, you get get a jump sometimes when first moving your finger, so the modulation is based on the absolute position of your finger, and I think it should be relative to where you first touch it, so that you don’t get those jumps. I’ve yet to test if the same is true when using the Roli Block.

Just checked, apparently there's a bug which once again breaks virtual midi input IF a different MIDI device is selected in the input section. I've made a note and will add a fix in 1.0.2

Anyway, in order to receive MIDI from Geoshred or any other app, simply set that app's MIDI output to VOLT and leave the input section within VOLT itself alone.

    Hope that helps.

I agree, you have to start somewhere tho and with the seaboard block being just as portable, focus for the initial release obviously was on getting that part right. That said, I'm happy to add more functionality if there is demand, in fact I am looking at it right now.

  • @ka010 Great! I wouldn’t have bothered about the onscreen keys had the actual synth not been anything special but, this is a good one!:-)

3 octaves are a lot of keys on any iPad. Personally i hold the iPad like a video game controller. My left thumb plays the low key/bass, my right thumb & index finger plays/finds melodies. This is actually how I play on real keys as well, perhaps not with piano kinda sounds, but with pads and leads, I keep it simple initially. When doing chords, you absolutely want less/larger keys though.

  • Liking the synth and happy that you’re so on top of squashing bugs.

  • Hi @ka010 I had a possible problem with Volt last night I was tweeking the last preset in the atmospheric genre it may have been my own fault but the level meter totalled went red and totally cut out the sound, changing preset didn't rectify this only relaunching the app.

  • I’m experiencing some sound crashes as well when changing presets. Have to restart app. I’m sure it will get sorted. The synth sounds great so no regrets.

I got that while adding a wee bit too much fx, on a preset with already cranked up levels. Could’ve been the feedback on the delay, not sure as I was just dabbling around with it using the iPad speakers. I think I just lowered all potential culprits and waited for a few seconds for the levels to come down. Again, I was using the iPad speakers, if using cans or speakers/monitors, brickwall it down until you find what’s causing the levels to haywire

@ka010 the first time I opened the AU after programming in standalone they didn’t not show up, but after that they did! So that’s promising. But I use BM3 a lot and look very much forward to internal preset management.

I have been programming patches like crazy on this. Loving how much I’m able to do with just one oscillator. I think I’ll be using this one a ton once that gets added. Thanks for addressing all our concerns!

My goal with this one really was to keep the UI as simple as possible while allowing for a wide range of timbres at the same time. Glad to hear that seems to work out well!

    • Keyboard: onscreen keyboard now supports quantized glide in regular mode

Ah yeah, sorry if I didn't get back to you yet. It's my list for tomorrow or maybe later today once I got those Auria problems sorted.
