"Moog Model D" Sale and Shocking Price Slash

Moog Model D price is somehow slashed again and now $4.99. Weird pricing strategy in my eyes. Anyways if you didn't buy it last time here's your chance.

it will be that price as long as it's featured on the itunes featured app front page!

  • I may be wrong but it’s possible Moog is trying to convert all of the Arturia iMini users to the “real deal”. I still dig iMini but the low end is superior on Model D. Plus, according to AppShopper (I can’t tell from the AppStore as it just says OPEN on the iMini purchase page), Arturia’s app is $9.99 and has been since the end of the November Black Friday sales.

Model D at $5 May be able to attract a lot of the iMini user base.

  • seems mad marketing to me - its worth x100 that....

  • Of all the things labelled "no brainer" here, this one definitely fits the bill.

As I mentioned in my video - even if you pick it up now at $5 knowing that you'll upgrade your iPad/iPhone later. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Agree...it‘s the best filter design in software ever....including all desktop plug-in.
But maybe sales got down with the higher price.
    IOS is strange market.
I would pay 100-150 as plug-in for sure.
It shows what code can be driven on even a smartphone today.
Together with my 2 fav. analog emulations on desktop it‘s the best thing since software emulations.
Sorry, iMini is not even close to what Model D is and even all the other desktop Minimoog emulations are not as good as Model D if i judge the raw sound before FX.
I know i make no friends here with my opinion but this wonderful synth is for me wasted to stay as cheap junk app food on iOS.
If there would be one app to get an iPad for it would be this for me to just use it like a hardware synth recording in my DAW. I‘m quite obsessed by this smooth but powerful filter design.
I‘m also not sure if that is a good way since people expect it to be often on sale now and would bitch about a 100 dollar plug-in if they ever want to enter the desktop market (they consider it i think).

no - I was looking last night and noticed it was 4.99 - even first thing this morning it was still 4.99, but shortly after it went back up to regular price.

So I'm guessing if the app happens to be featured on the iTunes front page again it will go back down to 4.99...

even on the app description page it said "as long as the model D app is featured on the front page, it will remain at discounted price"

  • What’s the full price?

I think it was $20.99 in Canadian - so maybe $15-16 US?

It was indeed up then but not anymore short after it. I know because I bought a faster iPad last Friday and got a tip that the Model D app was just about €5,-.

  • So confused: Model D displays in App store Featured at $4.99 but jumps to $14.99 when clicking in. Anyone know the actual current price of entry?

  • Not sure if I really want to take advantage of this price. I planned to buy it full price, not at a cheapy price.

Good plan. Moog has something special going on with their app design. It should be rewarded.

Better wait on the preset bundles too, because they might go up in price after the intro period.

Why don't you buy the app cheaply — which helps drive a sales spike, which draws more customers — and then you could take the extra $10 and give it to your charity of choice?

EDIT: Deleted the needlessly snarky line; in a cranky mood. Apologies.

I find it so amusing that you want a medal for resisting sale price on apps.

I find it very amusing that you feel the need to don the “stereotypical Gearslutz forum musician” curmudgeon attitude problem to overcompensate for having a pea-sized brain. :smirk:

Because paying full price helps give the developers more money which makes them less tempted to switch to subscription pricing.

    Right.

  • Update: I believe the Model D front-page feature (and connected pricing) was being shifted As I was looking so for a brief spell the app was confusingly "both" prices.

I'm okay with paying full / just didn't know which was actual.

  • Good thing I missed it. 9:30 pm Eastern on April 5, 2018 and it is back to $14.99.

  • I wouldn't worry about Moog needing money here. iOS apps can't be their prime revenue, and they know what they're doing in charging 5 bucks or whatever. I don't know their thinking, but the Model D project must be about more than just the money they get paid for the app.

  • edited April 2018

Animoog was a huge seller. It was also introduced at 99 cents. Probably not a coincidence. The early-adopting influencers grab it on sale and then effectively sell it for the company. If I had paid $15 for model D, would I be so over the moon about it? Maybe. But it definitely feels good to get such a great app at such a bargain price, and I want to tell the world how great this app is.

  • I’m waiting for NAMM, it’ll be free then.
