They’re easy on the cpu. With both loaded in AUM playing simultaneously on iPad Pro it barely went over 30% dsp.

How does Kauldron compare to Magellan? I never clicked with Magellan...
Kauldron’s more old style analogue. I like it, prefer it to Magellan, AU too.
Kauldron has less sheer options than Magellan (which can be a good thing) but has some things Magellan doesn't have, notably the patch bay page.
I prefer Magellan's Spawn, but Kauldron sounds better for me

Maybe it is $10 regular price. Seems like a $20 app, but so do Kauldron and Magellan, and those are normally $10.
Is Kaspar really worth double over theses other apps? Why is that one so comparatively expensive?
Galileo as an AUv3 is the dream... to be able to use that more fluidly with AUM would make this Mr. Poo very happy.

Question: is Kaspar a must have?
I wouldn't say it's a must-have - I reserve that for things like Model D, Zeeon, mood, AUM... I don't know if Kaspar is in that league.
The biggest issue with Kaspar is that it isn't LayR. What I mean is that it's not nearly as robust - sonically, feature-wise, etc. That can either be a blessing or a curse - while it's not as big sounding and doesn't have quite the ability for madness that LayR has, it also doesn't consume NEARLY the system resources that LayR does.
I didn't like Kaspar at first, but it's grown on me since. It works really well as an AU, and there still aren't nearly enough AUv3 synths for my liking. It has much more value than I think a lot of folks here would give it credit for, but it's not going to change the world or anything.
Hopefully that helps and doesn't muddy the waters....
This synth received a very lukewarm reception when it debuted. Has anyone cracked the nut yet and figured out what makes this synth special? Yonac seems to think it special, based on the pricing scheme, yet most people either say they don’t really like it, or are just meh whatevs about it. The opinion of this synth was not great, so I never bothered to look to closely at it. But surely there must be something about it that is awesome, no?
I’m trying to justify buying Kaspar when I already have LayR.
Looks good that you can have different midi channels per synth voice and the filter and envelope drawing looks nice. (11 mins in to the video below)
I'll say this - if you like Yonac's design-ethic and interface, you'll like this. It's got all the standard Yonac bells and whistles which was enough to justify it for me.
Here's the other side of the coin: don't feel obligated to buy something just because I like it. I fall victim to that all the time: people here are raving about something so I cave-in and buy it even though I didn't really have a use for it....
Dont forget Yamaha Essentials as an AUv3 synth, the oscilloscope works like a touch x-y controller for effects, of which there are multiple scenes, particularly fun and well thought out for use in AUM and I think its still free!
I feature FM Essentials in my upcoming video - this app is almost wasted because of the requirement to unlock it with an MX keyboard.... if you have even a passing interest, it is completely worth it to track down an MX and unlock the full version for free. It's also FULLY PROGRAMMABLE.
Between FM Essentials, FM Player & KQ Dixie, I've got all the DX7 I could possibly handle.
Just pulled FM Essentials back out last week. It has some cool sounds and arpeggios but the limited sounds are frustrating. I recorded some loops with it for BlocsWave but not sure if Ill keep it around much longer.
This synth seems to be a quality app but such a strange marketing angle where you need to buy hardware synths to unlock the sounds. I dont see too many people running out to buy a keyboard to unlock a few more presets when I can more easily just download a different synth for a fraction of the price.
Meanwhile for people that do have the hardware it almost seems like your expensive synth becomes a simple keyboard controller for a free app. Why not just buy a controller for apps then.
Hopefully they give up and just release all the presets on iOS, maybe as an IAP.
I agree - the whole thing doesn't make sense. Luckily I work a stone's throw from a Guitar Center, so I was able to walk over there on my lunch break, plug in my iPad and be done with it.
Ohh crafty...I wonder if theres some kind of midi file that could be sent from a computer to iphone that makes it look like the proper keyboard is plugged in.
