Need Link enabled one-shot record/playback solution

This is for playing guitar in a standard rock band setting. I'm the only guitar player, so it's nice to be able to record the verse part as it's being played, and then play it back later as backing for the solo. The drummer plays to a click track to keep the timing constant. I'm currently using a simple looping pedal, but it's not easy to get the timing right, and the pedal dance can get kind of hectic if I want to add in a boost and effect for the solo.

I can find Link enabled metronomes for the drummer, but need a recording app that will
1. sync to the next measure quantum from Link for the transport controls (to fix timing and give time to add effects)
2. have simple button presses for Record/Play Once (used if the solo comes right after a verse)
3. have simple button presses Record/Stop/Play Once (used if another section comes between the verse and the solo)
4. work with my FBV shortboard midi pedal

I've tried quite a few apps, but haven't found anything I really like yet. Here's what I've looked at:

  • Loopy HD - This is the best that I've found so far, but since it's so loop oriented the button sequence ends up kind of convoluted and I have to keep track of the transport/mute status so there's more chance for error.
  • Looperverse - transport quantization is broken.
  • Quantiloop - quantizes to the closest measure quantum, not the next measure, so doesn't give me the time I'm looking for to add effects. I do like the one-shot playback option since it saves a button press
  • Group the Loop - Haven't tried it, but there's no manual and the video demos seem very loop oriented
  • AUM - The quantized recording works great, but then loading the file for playback requires using the app. I added my request for auto-loading of recordings to the file player to the AUM forum, but doesn't work for now.
  • Beatmaker 2/3- Recording start gets quantized to the next measure, but not recording stop
  • Blocs Wave - No midi bindings

Depending on if/how AUM implements recording playback, it could be the best solution, but I'd like to find something now. Any suggestions?

    Just tried it. The midi bindings looked encouraging, but only the sequencer playback is quantized to Link. Recording is input level triggered. Thanks for the suggestion though

    Oh, I was thrown off by your use of the term "one-shot". You do want the sample to loop; you just want to quantize the recording count-out to the next bar, right?

    Easy: just pre-record your samples in AUM and load them into Loopy.

    Hard: ask @Michael or @quantiloop to consider your request for count-out recording to the next bar.

    Yeah, I could do the pre-record thing, but would really prefer to do it “live” so I don’t have to spend time looking for and loading tracks between songs. Plus it just feels less “canned” that way.

    Going in I thought this was going to be straightforward, but this doesn’t seem to be a workflow that any of the developers are thinking about.

    Any Group the Loop users out there that can comment on whether it would work for this?

    Actually Quantiloop quantizes to the next measure. It only quantizes to previous measure If the press is:

    • in the first second of the measure AND
    • within the first beat of the measure AND
    • within the first quarter of the measure.

    This is done as many people tend to press the pedal slightly to late (usually actually about 100 ms).
    Either way you should still have 3/4 of the measure at least to do your other stuff.

    Ok, that helps. When I was testing it out I could tell it was rounding it back, but didn’t know where the cutoff point was. Now that I know I can make it work.

    @quantiloop It still might be nice to have an option in the settings to force “round to next quantum”.
