New hardware coming from Novation

Some new sort of hardware inbound from Novation according to BoBeats, will it be linked to iOS.

My speculation points,

  1. Bo recently brought a iPad.
  2. I had a email survey from Novation a few months ago asking me how I think the Launchpad could be improved upon and how do I use it and what new features would I like to see added to it and what direction would I like to see it go in. No doubt other registered owner had the same email.

My guess is Novation is pulling out the hat some sort of Launchpad hybrid in the style of NI Maschine/ Ableton Push along with some sort of software to go with it hopefully cross platform think along the lines of Maschine on Windows/Mac/iOS.

Originally the Launchpad was a marketed as a Ableton Controller, I believe Novation believe the time is right that they can break into that market with a hardware/ Software DAW like competitor of their own.

Of course I could be totally wrong and its a hardware controller for Groovebox or it’s a Novation Circuit Modular box like Arturia MiniBrute 2 with a patchbay more likely seeing Bo was big on the Circuit and DivKid was at the party.

I hope it has a iOS connection with their parent company Ampify, time will tell.

Comments

  • Probably not. They had the best potential as brand and wrecked it...

  • Im pretty sure Bo has had an ipad for a long time, even tried some music apps, but didnt really care for it. He also knows Jakob(even had a podcast with him), so is aware of ios. Still prefers to use other gear instead.

    Ditto.

Personally I am growing tired of the marketing and "fake" spontaneous videos about products and apps.

Hence, I am really respecting companies like NI, AKAI, and ARTURIA who stay in their lane, don't overhype, and listen to customers.

So Novation left Blocs incomplete of midi control?

They nickel and dime everyone for a "default" subscription via preset IAP..........

    Now what?

I love my Circuit don't get me wrong.

But once again, I am guessing what is coming is essentially something that should have been added software wise to the Circuit, Launchpad Pro, and SOFTWARE in unison.

    BUT NO

    NEW PRODUCT.

    Lame.

    I will buy it sure.

But I also buy Apple products and am no fan boy of Apple.

They never even handled loading files via iOS to Circuit?

We still can't use Launchpad Pro like a sequencer? (medusa anyone)

I am not a big "Youtube iOS hype" .

  • I ended buying a mac mini and using ableton. Novation just for blocs to export and that’s all...
Also garageband gets a new dimension waiting for Logic (asap)

Hardware? Of course but I will wait for Ableton or just keep going with other brands like Pioneer (djs1000 in my target)...

  • I hope they make a smaller circuit. I want to have the circuit in theory, but I don’t like the design aesthetics. That’s why I’m interested in the op-z.

Circuit pro with decent screen, proper sampling and slicing, sd card, full Mininova engine editing onboard.. Could be tempted.

Could be since BlocsWave born as circuit complement but there are few cheap samplers not dissapointing lately...

  • a new firmware for mono circuit ;o)

well because op-z took so long to release it has given the competition some time to reflect on what the consumer is looking for in a standalone synth/sequencer/sampler which can midi control other hardware. I’m sure the interest in the deluge has also had an influence.
Probably gonna have the circuit name in there somewhere.

I expect the new breed of synths will be made in China by the Chinese themselves. Wonder still why this didn't already happened.

Just give us a Push2 type controller for Blocswave and Groovebox. Let’s us record automation, save patches, probability per step and export project as ableton audio/midi.

    Done.

I like some of my Novation Hardware I’ve never seen any that I disliked, but the Amplify apps are all pretty worthless to me. I’d be surprised if they came out with anything proper for iOS.

Seems like their current iOS approach is something they can give for free that is a fun toy for a moment and then you can unlock features that almost make it usable with some IAPs, but still extremely inflexible in it’s use. Also, they tend to be heavily techno or other dance music oriented and for me that is fun for a minute and I have to stop.

Some of your comments are really unfair.

You don’t have to buy any of their presets. It’s totally optional and hardly a subscription.

Their updates to the Circuit have far exceeded anything I ever expected when I bought it.

Novation are one of the best companies out there in terms of delivering value to customers.

Well, seems a nice "all in one" controller to me.
I won't buy it because I've set something that suits better my actual needs with different midi controllers.
But I must admit my "hybrid midi thing" is a bit more expensive than this SL MK3 which does things I don't need and doesn't do some other stuffs I do need, so...no regrets at all :)
