SquareSynth (NES 8-Bit Synth) - Anybody have it?

I had this one bookmarked a while ago, before I found this forum or knew anything about synths. $1.99 U.S., only 1.9 MB, and it claims to be both AudioBus compatible and works with Virtual MIDI (to control with a separate app).
Anybody tried it or know anything about it? (Guess I should head to some YouTube videos). Might be a cool novelty, or if you really like Crystal Castles

I don't have this synth yet, but you can deal cool 8-bit or Crystal Castles sounds with Caustic, Korg Gadget, and if you tweak enough, with Cassini.

Of the ones you mentioned, I have Cassini. Not good at tweaking yet, but just from the presets, I could see what you're saying. Also have Sunrizer, Magellan, and Alchemy (these are the iPhone versions, but all quite good).
For 8 bit synths you should forget about filters, use raw and naked oscillators, square are better, but saw and triangle are good too. And the secret ingredient is square LFO sent to oscillators pitch. Cassini has 8-bit oscillators too.
It's a nice synth for doing 8-bit music, you can get some nice combinations with effects apps and can have four different presets going at once plus you can loop with it and play on top of that. A nice straight forward synth with which can be played via midi too. You can create and save your own presets.
Anyone know of any 16bit synths, Amiga music style?

@Dramatispersona13 - Good tip, I will try that. However, the unintended consequence of this thread might have been to get me interested in Caustic (though I might wait until it gets on the Bus and picks up some export options to get it into DAW's without workarounds).
1.99 for SquareSynth is pretty solid, though.

I don't think I need SquareSynth if I end up with Caustic. SquareSynth feels like a single panel from the 14 or whatever that Caustic has.
But Caustic needs that update - I don't want to get locked into a world where I'm designing things completely within one app. The whole way I got into this was to augment my experience playing guitar (multi-track recording, drum beats, accompanying synths, etc.)

If you are interested in creating NES style chiptunes, I can highly recommend Square Synth.
Caustic I wouldn't recommend specifically for that purpose, as you edit Caustic's 8-bit synth by literally typing in code, which is fun to fiddle around with but impractical and non-intuitive for most.

Thanks for posting that! I did pick up Caustic, but I'll wait a few weeks (to spread out this insane binge of purchases) and I'm almost certainly going to pick this up eventually.
Pretty cool to be able to make a Mega Man chiptune almost by accident in that thing. Any app that has full connectivity to DAW's and MIDI, plus a small file size is likely to stay on my devices.

@senhorlampada - Thanks! Several people seemed to like the app - it certainly nailed the 8-bit sounds I imagined it would in the video above!
Now that the app is universal it suddenly became an 'instabuy' for me.
It does 8 different sounds over midi at the same time which is really nice.
There is no 'tracker feature' in it(it has overdub wave-recording) but I'm thinking when 'iMidi' (From the awesome developer of MidiSequencer) hits the AppStore it will be a pretty nice tool making for chip-music and other weird noises
I'd honestly love to see this app have same kind of filter too with the same table sequencing that is already available for pitch, wave and pulse width.
Can't help it but personally i prefer the SID-Chip over the NES-Chip...
I'll try to formulate a nice request to the developer of SquareSynth and ask for additional chip-emulations

Awesome, I love this app for making NES style chiptunes. Sometimes it is a little fiddly having to enable external MIDI and BG audio every time and then selecting presets for each channel to make sure they 'stick' (sometimes the preset would reset despite showing what was last selected).
AUv3 sounds great and will hopefully make things a lot easier in a DAW with saved preset settings etc.
