Distributing music
Just wanted to see forum members experiences with music distribution.
From what I’ve read, there are a few free options: SoundCloud, Bandcamp and Choon. But with that route it’s not released on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
Then there are paid distributors...I’m thinking Distrokid for $20/year is good. Music gets on the major sites.

This maybe can help you

You can't go wrong with Distrokid .
There is also MusicDiffusion (MusicDiffusion.com) who will distribute to Spotify/iTunes/Tidal/Deezer, Amazon etc etc for a few euro's, pay per use so no monthly charge, they do 0 promotion though so you will have to do that part yourself, that is probably true of most of the distributors though.
Excellent overview of the options.
Big fan of CDBaby myself, not the cheapest option but really responsive when I have questions or need help. I also do Bandcamp too though, no reason you can't do both.
I’m with Distrokid, but I’ve spent on the middle option since a few years ago (to use my label name which is associated with my own ISRC codes) and took out a few of the paid extras with my album Electric Ian, to see what difference it might make (Shazam/Siri, YouTube money, etc). I’ve also uploaded the lyrics, which should show up in Apple Music, as an experiment.
Nevertheless I’m still intrigued by things like Choon (not tried it yet, might do though).
Incidentally, Distrokid has a recommendation scheme resulting in a little bit of a financial benefit, if you ask someone who is already on it (not necessarily me, pick who you want). I suppose most of the other similar services offer something like that too.
I have long used CDbaby and Bandcamp. I re-reviewed the Ari article, had read it years ago.
Bandcamp is where we try to push people because of course you get way larger sales percent.
I still make a handful of CDs if it is a gigging group. But I dont know how long Ill do that. We will announce we have CDs at a show and Bandcamp etc., some people will buy some CDs. But last few years, we will get a spike of Bandcamp buys, right during the show. Have checked usb drive prices too, but they seem similar to small CD orders.
You made me remember an article about scarcity and blockchain. I can envision limited edition blockchain based so there is no possibility of copy. It's no DRM, it's more like limited units for collectors (borrowed line I know) but maybe a solution to substitute cd format for those who wants to buy limited edition and physical copies of anything but just attaching the blockchain code in the moment.
To be different from a regular QR you will think in the wallet dependecy (or personal key) being that copy hard linked to it so you can't copy it without the permission of the creator (obviously open to what you deal since it should be direct deal cutting man-in-the-middle).
The point is to give supporters some way to recommend your work and get also reward (as example Steemit platform and Smart Contracts) so instead giving zero value to the scarcity, you are enrolling your fanbase into being curators (think how Apple fans talk about Apple) and getting the right price point should embrace people to buy instead just copy and run.
I will link some articles about the topic for anyone interested. I'm also learning alongside since I have steemit account but I still not understand how wallet works or exchangers...

Maybe some are repetitive (I read them diagonally searching for the original but not luck) but I think these have the basic info to spark the interest.
Peace.
Thanks everyone for the comments. I'll probably use Distrokid and maybe put on Bandcamp too. I'm a noob with this
