I'm experimenting setting chord stabs whenever i want to change the progression...
Gives a notion of the rhythm too. Then, after layering the other stuff, I have two options.
Remove the chord stabs or throw some echo and reverb there and transform it into a nice bed
"Drumless" composition?!!! That's BLASPHEMY!!!! You will reside in a heretofore unnamed level of Dante's inferno!!!!
Thanks for starting this great thread! Recently I have been making some drumless/beatless ambient stuff. Usually start by just noodling on bass with a reverb pedal set to almost full wet or full wet. When I get a sound/feeling I like, I will layer and add texture from there. It may be additional bass notes heavily mangled, or Spacecraft or animoog or other synths mangled. The tracks on here (https://choon.co/artists/bayingridges/)all started from a one note drone on bass guitar with heavy reverb.
Great tips and example tunes. Thanks guys!
Ha. Just taking a peek over the fence!
Thanks dude! Looks like you found my old account? Anyway, I'm only using twitter these days @ka010
That's cool I use Twitter sometimes lol ig is really the only social media I mess with, for time management purposes, but I'll give ya a Twitter follow and maybe get back into Twitter life soon hehe
Here's a video of my workflow without drums. The only part not shown is the sound design phase. I spend a bit of time dialing in some inspirational sounds and then jam with them.
My most recent is drumless:

V.Nice examples, cheers.
So many ways to skin a ‘drumless’ cat.
Fascinating to see all the variations.
