Is most of the Korg Kronos ported to iOS now?
Hey party people,
I'm a former Korg Kronos owner, but must admit I sold it after quite a short-lived honeymoon period... I was using it exclusively for live performance (and loved the sheer power and sonic possibilities), but lost a little bit of my sanity trying to make heads or tails of things like Karma, and endless pages of menus with a sh*tty touchscreen... Rant over.
Anywhooo, it seems like Korg has tried to squeeze more revenue out of their VA software (MS-20, PolySix, some of their PCM samples in the Module app). Of course they've done plenty of things unrelated to the Kronos too (iM1, Wavestation, ARP ODYSSEi etc)
What do you think is in the future for the Korg Kronos format? It's been almost 8 years since Kronos was released, will we see a Kronos 3 at NAMM? Or perhaps the full Kronos engine on iOS?
I personally think the Kronos interface would quite well suited to an iPad, and if there was a decent automap for common midi controllers, they might have a Nord Stage killer....
Thoughts?

What hasn't been ported to iOS:
CX-3
AL-1
MOD-7
STR-1
Although there are existing apps that can be substituted for each of the above. Galileo being an obvious sub for CX-3 for example.
I would be happy with a full port of the HD-1 engine including sampling & sample-editing...
We're getting closer.
It's called iWavestation plus AudioLayer
With all the available PCM cards, I don't think I'll ever use it to its full potential.
Yeah, but we still can't use our own samples with iM1 or iWaveStation that's my main gripe with them
There's no way to do 'wave sequencing' with AudioLayer and to be honest AudioLayer is less tan optimal for quick sampling workflow. I mean we can't even normalise the recorded sample or preview them with a keyboard while trimming, no fade in/out of ends to avoid clicks etc. etc.
I do all my sampling & editing with BM3
I think the marriage between hardware and software is still a work in progress. I had high hopes for workstations at one time, but the problem imo is one of creating a continuous development budget that would allow these devices to mature enough to compete with computing devices and software.
Another issue is the more that computers blend with keyboard based hardware, the more the reliability that once was such a part of workstations and hardware synths, fades away.
I would love to see Apple build a hardware device specifically designed for iPad use and them to design the most stable music hub to host all these AUs, but Apple work like all businesses on a make money now approach - really long term stability is not in their interests.
So, workstations will always be many paces behind PCs / Macs and even iPads, but their will always be a market for them with many musicians.
