  • I really like the bleep-bloop and weird aspect of my 0Coast. It can be playable as well, with really nice low end. Was excited to pair it up with this modular until I listened to the demos.
Not impressed with the sound at all.
The drum actually quite nice imo, but with ipad I see no reason to get one.

The demos on the official page are straight out of the Buchla (West-coast) playbook - eg "Western Bongo", "Generative" - so the Modular is only a fit for those who actually like the Buchla sound in the first place.

I think Korg was smart to not make this an East-coast style, as that side of the affordable modular/semi-modular world is overcrowded already: Moog Mother 32, Moog DFAM, etc.

I agree. This seems way more "out there" even though it might not be out-there enough for some, it's different enough to warrant getting it. Especially at this price point. Consider me sold.

Dumb question (maybe) - not being a modular guy, can you chain these together? Seems like that could get interesting.

Or could one patch into a Moog Werkstatt with this?

I'm totally into that type of thing, but the sound is a let down...

You can definitely "chain" them - share "modules" between each other.
Not sure about Werkstatt though. AFAIK Werkstatt uses standard CV signals, this - according to Reverb demo - will convert CV to some kind of internal signal. So to me it seems like you can convert single CV stream, but can't directly route things from standard CV sources into modules of Korg Modular.

I recall seeing a Youtube vid that included a comparison of Volca FM vs. DX7II - there I had to admit the Volca version sounded less refined than the DX7II. That illustrated for me the nature of all Korg Volca models - none of them are going to have top class A/D or D/A converters or other cream of the crop components.

I agree with what BramBos said earlier about the Volcas.
