    RE: BeatHawk

I figured out my other question.

My remaining question is.... is the only way to play a factory "drum kit", to use the "Pitch" window?
I'm guessing there's no way to move a kit to pads, unless I load each sound one by one?

Haha! Yeah, if only they’d told me that was my exclusive sneak peek presale. :p Now that it’s for real I guess I must’ve caught them testing.. or I’ve developed some kind of clairvoyance. LOL

You need to load single samples into the pads if you don't want to use a keyboard (pitch mode controller). You only have to do it once. There isn't an automated way to break up the multi-sampled instruments into pads.

You can control beathawk from midi. So you could set up pads in a keyboard AU such as Velocity KB and set up pads there that correspond to the notes in the bh sampler you are controlling.

  • The classical percussion is suberb, finally have a portable gong!

Thinking about getting the musical toys pack, is it good?

  • @lukesleepwalker and @BlueGreenSpiral how are you guys digging the classical percussion?
Always interested in getting a pack like this, and kept an eye in Sampletanks Cinematic Percussions, but this seem to fit pretty well

I really dig the musical toys pack. A good pack of sounds if you're thinking outside the box. Has digital and acoustic musical toys

  • Can this be done using KB-1?

  • If i'm not wrong, you can. But there was something I can't recall doing right regarding changing pads/sounds and pitching.
Like you should choose a pad and then play in KB-1.
Gonna try later (running Xequence 2 to Beathawk)

I think one needs to turn of omni for pads, after doing that each of the pads receive on their own midi-channel.
At least that's how I've gotten it to work...

I like it! The gongs and metal percussion fit a need I often have and the taikos sound great. Even the snares (some very nice rolls) will fit in somewhere. Good buy at $2.99 for my needs. I'm looking at the toy percussion myself!

  • I searched the forum for the many threads on the various BH packs but couldn’t find....did anyone ever happen to take the time to list which packs had actual instruments, and not just loops etc?

I think when you are in beathawk when you browse the available packs, there is a summary about the contents that includes the number of loops, etc

Will take a closer look at BH IAPs the toy sound, 90s HipHop, trap constructor and maybe the 909, love their 808 pack :)

Are these 808/909 packs any better/different than those in MV08 or the Cubasis drum machines or all the Elliot Garage apps?

OK, thanks for verifying this. I'll build and save my own drum kits.

    ...

On a different note... The $5.99 Acoustic Grand Piano pack has a couple of amazingly good patches. I had to adjust the filter and ADSR a bit to get it were I wanted it, but his is now my new favorite iOS piano. Totally worth it for the Drums and the Pianos. )

You can use any MIDI controller. You will also need to set your BeatHawk prefs to accommodate what you do. BH is pretty flexible but a little trial and error may be needed to figure out which prefs match how you want to work.

To my ears they sound better that the Cubasis pack and there's more source samples done with various settings on the hardware. I deleted MV08 some time ago after I noticed so low-level high pitched 'whine' in the source samples (especially with high levels of compression applied) that drove me nuts. Don't have the Elliot Garage apps.

The 'kits' have the sound spread across the keyboard and there's no way to control the pan of the individual sounds in a kit so the stereo image is all over the place :) (But it's easy enough to create a custom kit and at the same time apply delay, filters, reverb etc. on a per sound basis).

I'm also giggling loudly when going thru the sounds in the toy box pack :D
(As long as the sale is on I'm checking out some of the other packs as well).

BH also works quite nicely as a 'sound module' in AUM and Cubasis so I'm happy I re-installed it after some serious app-cleaning :)

I misunderstood you for turning ON Omni for Pads
But turning it off is the right stuff
    Thanks so much, mate

  • @lukesleepwalker thanks for the feedback.
I'm checking here but great chance i'll get Classic Perc, Baroque and something else

Yeah those snare rolls are great, there’s a lot in the pack. Can’t go wrong at that price!!

  • I grabbed Africa, perfect fit for a video game I’m working on.

  • Is $5.99 the sale price for musical toys?

  • I just grabbed the app, thanks for the notification. Can someone recommend a pack that has a good analogue drum kit in it?

Have you already played thru all the sounds in the factory banks? (It takes a while...).
Also 'good' is very subjective, what's awesome for one sucks for another...

Listen thru the demos of the sound packs in the store and grab what sounds good to you :)

  • Ah, I just saw there‘s a specific „Accoustic drums“ pack, I scrolled past it the first time. That sounds good to me.

Ahh, you meant 'Acoustic' and not 'Analog' :)

There is rain in the Celtic pack demo, I’m Irish and we do get a lot of that stuff!

Haven’t found any flies in the pack but buzzing animals make great sound sources. Will seek those out :)

  • Not sure about y'all. But I had to reinstall BH and can't restore purchases :disappointed:
