Also just tested with a builtin Cubasis instrument same result

Gotcha, what about iOS version and Cubasis session sample rate?

Pro 11 uses as far as I know 48K when using the built-in speakers (and headphones in some cases if they have a built-in mic) and if the session sample rate is set to 44.1 there could be some sample-rate issues at play here...

Could be worth to check out (ie. change the Cubasis sample rate and re-freeze).

Sometimes I'm really happy I've not gotten a new iPad...(I would go totally nuts with all the sample-rate issues etc. etc. etc.).

Im on IPad Os last beta. But i also had the same issues when i had my ipad pro 10.5 on ios 12

Ok, then the sample-rate issue is definitely worth to check...
(ie. what sample-rate the project in Cubasis is set to, if it's 44.1, try 48, if it's 48 try 44.1).

According to Dougs latest stream on DigiSticks it's due for an update like tomorrow or so, with round-robin and other goodies.

  • Even if i currently don't use cubasis cause of the Sync issues i bought the classic machines and Waves plugins nonetheless now. It's important to encourage the Steinberg Team to further improve the app ;)

    Thanks for the sale!

I’m on 48khz and can’t change.will test with audio interface and see if that could help.

What sync issues are you having?

Timing issues with AU Midi/Audio plugins with own sequencer (i.e. Rozeta XoX) but even with the arp from Micrologue.

You can read everything here, scroll down a bit to my 1st post on page 8

Ouch, the 11" Pro is locked to 48K right?
Do you have any USB-C->3.5mm adapters so you could hook up some headphones without a mic?

Honestly I feel Apple really f*cked up by locking the hardware sample-rate on the devices...
(Still the _video_ is recorded with 44.1K audio like WTF when 48K is _standard_ for video).

    Oh well, Apple is Apple...
(Even my iPhone 8 which has locked 48K sample-rate records video with 44.1K audio).

    Hi there.
I just tested my USBc adapter with 3.5 no mic but still at 48.i think the adapter might also be at 48khz.will search for some on Amazon that’s supports 41khz

And Cubasis can start Audiobus via Midi Sync, which gets almost everything rolling.

    Can you advise how?

    Sure.
In Cubasis, go into Setup, and in the Midi area turn on Send Midi Clock.
In Audiobus, go into Settings, and in the Sync section turn Link and IAA sync on, Audiobus Start/Stop to on, and in Midi Clock Sync select Virtual Midi as the Midi Clock source.

Do not select Cubasis as Midi Clock source. Cubasis sends Midi Clock to the generic Virtual Midi port, not its own named port.

Because Link apps typically have a Sync Quantum of one bar, I suggest leaving an empty Bar 1 in Cubasis to get the start of the two Clocks in sync. When you hit play in Cubasis, it will start its clock, but Audiobus will start one bar later because of the Link Sync Quantum.

This will get most apps hosted in Audiobus started in sync, as long as they support Link or IAA sync, or are AUv3s.

tnks, that was gold, i was selecting Cubasis as virtual port ( this should be documented in manual)

and the 1 bar trick was cool, never thought of it

    Hi @Paa89,

Gave the track freeze issue a short check with our Classic Machines instruments, where things work as expected (see screenshot below). In addition, I've dropped the Kal Group a short message to exchange about the topic (and switch promo codes, since we're not equipped with DigiStix as of yet).

In addition, this were regular track freezes. Did not make use of the extra settings for instrument, where mixdown/freeze fails.

Please share more information with us:

    • What iPad model/iOS do you have in use?
    • Are you able to reproduce the issue with a single MIDI track assigned to DigiStix?
    • What happens if you use regular track freeze (having the Real-time mixdown settings disabled)?

    Best,
    Lars

  • On this screenshot Nine Machine seems to be spot on but Seq Classic has on offset.

That could be the samples that are used too, to add some 'air' or 'groove' ;)
(Since the screenshot is not fully zoomed in on the sample the samples wave-form is likely squashed a bit).

Hi there Lars thanks for the reply.
iPad Pro 11 on iOS 13 but the issue also used to happen on iPad Pro 10.5 on iOS 12.
As you can see in this picture, I used Cubasis Drum instrument and still the same result.
The developer of Digi suggested trying to use 1/64 quantise but unfortunately no lock on that too.
It happens with both AUv3 and Cubasis instruments

    Hi Paa89,

Could you please give the following steps a try?

    • Load an empty project
    • Make sure "Real-time Mixdown..." and "Audio Unit Mixdown Comp" options are disabled
    • Shut off Cubasis and the iPad
    • Create a new Cubasis project with a single MIDI track assigned to Classic Machines
    • Record a few bars of Classic Machines (e.g. a kick or snare drum)
    • Perform track freeze on that track

The results should be similar to mine, please keep me update.

    Best,
    Lars

Just made a test and followed the procedure.
I don’t own classic machine so I used the drum kits that come with Cubasis
It’s better now but some transient look a lil bit off when zoomed in

    Hi Paa89,

Thanks for the update, looks better now!

Paul Barnard from the Kal-Group get back to me to inform me, that they are aware of the DigiStix issue and already have submitted a new version to the App Store which should address this.

    Best,
    Lars

Great app. Very worth the purchase. But will they please 🙏 let the transport be hardware controllable 😡

You can load Cubasis into Audiobus, then midi learn the audiobus transport controls for Cubasis from your hardware.

    Indeed, you can.
And Cubasis can start Audiobus via Midi Sync, which gets almost everything rolling.

Just experimented with this! Thanks guys, very cool stuff! I still wish they would’ve had a native solution, but it’s better than nothing! Thanks again

  • I did not see any out of sync frozen audio using SynthMaster One in Cubasis

  • I do not see any out of sync audio too.
But usually when i load project i need to reinitialize (press button ‘e’ on some aufx and icons of synths) : audiodamage plugins, sunrizer and spacecraft.

  • The more I think about it the more this simple request starts to make sense...

    • Add a tab to the Media Browser that lists all the audio files contained the currently active Cubasis Project.

This would make it a lot easier to re-use the files in other places of the arrangement simply by dragging them from the 'Project Folder' back to the time-line and thus avoid creating duplicate files...

Another request is to use 'Project Bound' Mini Sampler instruments.
Meaning the Mini Sampler instruments would just 'reference' the files in the current Cubasis Project.
(This way it would be quick and easy to use any recorded audio within a project as a sampler instrument).

Or maybe it's just better to scrap the Mini Sampler in Cubasis and replace it with the Cubase Sampler Track?
(I mean even GarageBand is faster at creating sample based instruments than Cubasis, just drag any audio to the Sampler).

So what about it @LFS ?

Care to share at least a little hope of improved file management and sample usage for Cubasis?

    Cheers!

  • And well, please bring the Sampler Track to Cubasis...
