  • While I agree there were some lackluster BM3 tutorials in the beginning, There are plenty of great/ high quality ones by really great guys with plenty of gems and value.

Dean Daughters has over 40 dedicated BM3 videos:

    Brandon Rico: https://www.youtube.com/user/BrandonRico1

These guys are go to guys to watch in my opinion. There are more but these guys come to mind when it comes to great BM3 tutorials.

What’s really dope has been watching these guys improve over the past few years. It’s dope. So to me the OP is very relevant. Regardless of how we feel about Bm3 or whoever is making tutorials we can’t deny it’s impact. BM3 is what it is first because it’s bad ass kit. Second, the way it’s inspired so many would be influencers to dedicate time to create so many videos that no other IOS DAW can currently boast. NS2 is young and coming up but Bm3 to the Ops point seems to be on the throne in terms of trending, pop/cultural impact, and social media relevance.

  • Seems like a suspiciously shill post. I own BM3 and personally I deleted it from my iPad. If I was buying an iOS DAW today I would probably chose any other option over this one that has bugs and promised features that have gone on for a year or more and developers that have ghosted their users and the community. It's not terrible as is and it fits some people's use case but it doesn't seem like it's as mature as other options and it doesn't seem like it's being actively developed so it never will be

I’m not a BM3 user.ive used it few times and mainly work in Cubasis.
I’m just curious to know what others think to why the app seems to becoming more popular than others☺️

Can BM3 keep up is the question? I know people who bought ipads just to run BM3.... only to have bug and workflow issues. Fantastic app, and the best sampler in iOS, IMO. But it needs an update and to add simple features like midi sync.

I think Zenbeats could become the new fav of a lot of people.

  • Beatmaker is the most feature rich host app for iOS, BUT is super unstable and buggy.
The date of the update has been postponed not once, and as far as I know there was a change in management. So I would stay away for now, till the update makes it clear.
I doubt it played any considerable part in any serious production.

  • :D :D :D This guys said “ I doubt it played any considerable part in any serious production.“ :D :D
    You have no idea!!!!!

A BM3 update is coming soon. That’s all I’m gonna say.

Just hoping the focus is not too much on midi slaving to external devices...
...I mean it's a bloody DAW not a 'glorified sound module' slaving to other DAWs?

If that is the focus then it's better do a new BM3 Lite.app with one Bank as an AUv3...

As long as input monitoring works while sampling I'll be ok with the update I guess?!

Don't get me wrong I like BM3 but the split focus between being a proper 'Sampler' and a 'Broducers Trap Box' is kinda worrying...

Believe me, I had high hopes.... sadly, that’s not ready for primetime either, IMO. Wish I could pick and choose the best parts of all the available iOS DAWs and make a FrankenDAW. A good, full featured, stable DAW in iOS World is the only thing keeping me from going 100% ipad......literally. And until I see one with a decent spec, I refuse to spend anymore more money on half-finished apps that are missing basic functionality. I just can’t. I would gladly pay full DAW prices (@$300,etc) for a full on iOS DAW.

I can't parse the implied differences/specs between DAW / proper Sampler / Broducer Trap Box...

  • I really don’t if it’s the most used, I’d say it’s in my top 5? I’d say it would be in my top 3 if it weren’t for the crashes. It doesn’t crash all the time but compared to other IOS Daws I use it crashes more. Definitely not as much as IMpc Pro, I really wish that was more stable. I will say I think BM3 has the best or one of the best samplers. I do notice that most of the videos I see on YouTube don’t cover a lot of what it has to offer workflow wise.

DAW = Tool to record, arrange & process (Stretch, RePitch, Chop & Process) midi & audio generated using various sources.
Sampler = Record, Edit, Slice/Chop, Create Instruments using filters, envelopes modulations based on recorded material.
Trap Box = Sound Module with presets and downloaded library content.

    That's in short...

It’s at the bottom of the pile f0r me, as it stands. The features are brilliant but it crashes so much it’s not really usable for me. In addition, it doesn’t show chords in the piano roll, which is really weird. It definitely has some great features and I’m more than open to using it again. Not yet, though. Not until it’s stable, at the very least.

On my 2017 base ipad it crashes a lot. On my 10.5 pro rarely ever.

I’ve got a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 and it crashes using the app a lot. I wish it didn’t, but it does. In the end I just got sick of it and looked at other stuff. Mainly using NS2 at the moment, which, despite its drawbacks (midi problems and no audio tracks) is rock solid stable and beautiful.

Yah NS2 almost got me. The audio tracks IAP has the potential to win me over almost completely to it. I am not huge on the 'making an instrument' side of the BM3 sampler so much as primarily using it for chopping/pitching/stretching/speed adjusting/cross fading audio, which any good audio tracks implementation should nail. I could certainly see at some point possibly primarily using NS2 with BM3 as more of an audio track/stem generator.

NS2 is cool but I can’t map my midi controllers how I want which is another aspect where BM3 has spoiled me. I use a novation launchkey mini mk2 which has 16 pads. I’m able to match those pads directly to BM3 where the pad mode can be active using any instrument

So many different ways of working with midi. For me NS2 midi support is fantastic for KRFT and that it is a big draw to it for me. Never could really get a great midi setup with BM3 for me. Not a huge priority at this point though.

  • Everything on Ios is just half baked

Why, it's the Frederick Douglass of beatbox apps!

If you dont know the types of videos I mean, you have serious issues, they have very little content, spend the first five minutes of the video yelling their name and explaining why they are making the video etc, then thirty seconds showing you (yes showing you, as in more hand movement than actual content) how to do something that ten other “its ya boyeeeee” vloggers already tried to show you (with their hands) it has zero, absolutely zero to do with genre, I know plenty of Hip Hop producers (including myself) who hate these types of no talent hacks trying to become an ‘influencer’ of some kind.
The hilarious thing is how much these idiots spend on Blackmagic gear etc, just to all look and edit the exact same generic click baity way.

TBH, I feel like that's 90% of videos on YT. Just all fluff and no meat.
The hand gesticulations are simply dudes playing the part of hip-hop culture. It comes off mad pretentious sometimes so I feel what you're saying.
And to add to what you are saying, the full annoying tag phrase is actually “its ya boyeeeee... back with another video”. LMAO

(Like really? Another video? There I was thinking you were back with a curry masala pizza. What a muthafugging curveball")

As far as DAWs, mosdef. There’s plenty of polished synths and instruments though. I think some of it comes down to the restrictive policies of Apple themselves. There’s no reason not to have legit DAWs at this point. I was running full DAWs in OS9 YEARS ago on machines that are half as powerful as my ipad.

    Thanks for bringing this up.
I was also think about the fact that other than Auria pro, no other DAW developer seem to venture into adding “pro” features.

    @yonhorizon said it best.
It’s like everything is half baked.
Even though they are fantastic apps, but all of them lack something.
