Is there any Auv3 sequencer with step triggers ala Senode?
It seems that Senode will not likely make the leap to Auv3 any time soon, and to be honest.. I'm over trying to route midi using apps running in the background if I can help it. It gets too fiddly, and things begin to glitch and crash.
I wonder if anyone can point me to anything else that might do this.
I'm attempting to map a Boppad to four separate midi channels and have each pad trigger an independent instrument/sequence in AUM - each predetermined, but also with some stochastic events as well for fun.
I was hoping that Cykle could do this, but it seems to always be running. Maybe there's a Mozaic script out there in the wild that might help me accomplish something like this? ![]()

Looking for the same and haven't found it! I had pinned my hopes on Photon but no state saving so it takes away the efficiency of AU midi. Someday when the day job settles a bit I'll write a mozaic script. Haven't looked closely but the clusters script may be a good starting place?
Which aspects of the concept are you looking for in this hypothetical app/script?
The visual parts are obviously hard to mimic in Mozaic.
Press a controller note/CC and step sequence plays, independent of transport, with probability (on/off, pitch, velocity) for each step. I was thinking the notes in the step could be set using knobs on mosaic, shift for settings per step.

I know two apps that can do it.
Modstep (also hosts IAA and AUv3) and Genome MIDI (MIDI only).
Trigger MIDI clips by MIDI notes with adjustable launch quantisation.
If you want some randomness then you could use Streambyter/MidiFire/Mozaic to map different hit velocities of the same note from the boppad to different trigger notes. The smaller the velocity ranges are, the more "randomly" the notes will be triggered because you rarely hit with the exact same velocity again.
Or does the boppad allow for mapping different velocity levels to different notes, like the old Roland Octapad?
Thesys can be triggered by notes.....from the manual:
Trigger Mode
This three-state toggle switch determines how Thesys responds to a trigger signal. The
first option is Host. This means that Thesys is slaved to the host clock and will start when
the host clock is started.
Note On triggers (starts) Thesys as soon as a note is played. Thesys continues to play as
long as the note is held.
Note Toggle toggles (starts and stops) Thesys with any incoming MIDI note. The first note
starts the sequencer and the next incoming note stops it.

I didn't realize that had made it to Auv3. It looks to be more than I'd bargained for. Something about the sugarbytes stuff "more is more" aesthetic puts me off a bit, but if it will do what I'm hoping for then it might just fit the bill. I wonder how well four instances of Thesys as well as four Spectrum synths will run on my ageing ipad..
thanks, I have Modstep - really wanted to like it, but it sadly feels unfinished and abandoned. I'm looking for a streamlined Auv3 that I can run in AUM.
Rozeta Cells or Cykle would be great for this if only steps could be triggered individually rather than always running with the host clock. I got excited when I saw the "midi trigger" option on Cells, but it triggers the sequence to start (and always tethered to host tempo) rather than triggering the next step as I'd hoped. I wonder if building this sort of trigger would be possible in Mozaic.
I wish more sequencers had the option to detach from the host clock altogether, not only for the possibility of midi triggering, but also for doing fun phasing sequences by running them at slightly different tempos.
Have a look at the Mozaic sequencing scripts and hack them to your taste.
Too complicated?
To get what you've now described (including off-beat triggers), I would simply use ChordPolyPad running in the background and trigger pre-programmed chords via MIDI notes. Editing chords in CPP is a pleasure and you can even have 64 pads - enough for 4-bar sequences with each pad representing one step. Variation is easy by just changing notes in the host sequencer, or randomly changing them to get random chords and off-beat timing.
Yes, I'm digging into the Mozaic projects on Patch Storage right now. So much good stuff!
Guess I'm going to have to hunker down and finally overcome my fear of code..
Chordpolypad looks interesting, but I don't think it can do what I'm going for: triggering 4 independent sequences on different channels, with 4 different synth engines.
Gonna delve into Mozaic, and maybe take the plunge with Thesys and hopefully get close to what I'm imagining.
I like the idea of having a sequencer that just deals fills.. I think things could get a little crazier using LFOs as the sequence indexer maybe. Time to crack open Mozaic again.
As for triggering multiple independent sequences, perhaps multiple instances of Mozaic with one that acts as a trigger for all might be the way forward.
I feel you brother. I’ve been on a quest to rival the hunt for the holy grail to find a trigger advance soft seq. The best is the vst called midistep by Piz. It’s got a shit interface and I have no idea where the 64 bit version can be found any more.
But on iOS, you won’t find anything better than Senode. Yea it sucks its not AU. But it’s the best.
What can be done in terms of crazy structures is pretty awesome. Now that it has zoom and pan it’s way easier to use too.
It’s weird there’s not more, because the earliest sequencer relied on a trigger pulse to advance! It’s like everyone forgot that.
