“Smart” Virtual Strings Beyond GarageBand?

I’ve been producing some original music for a high school play, including an epic kind of grand finale song that includes a string section. I used GarageBand’s “smart” virtual strings, combining some of the autoplay options from the “modern” & “romantic” varieties.

Anyway, I’m considering delving deeper into this kind of theatrical music production and wondering if there are other virtual strings/symphonic apps out there with similar “autoplay” functions?

Also, does anyone know if this kind of software exists for Logic?

I know of a few apps that have beautiful symphonic sounds, but I’d love to find something with a bunch of autoplay functions similar to GarageBand’s smart strings that I could combine/cut/splice/edit. I’m not really looking to compose orchestral sections instrument by instrument. Thanks for any & all help.

    One alternative is any app that plays chords, run into a good flexible arpeggiator. ChordPolyPad into StepPolyArp Unit is a powerful combination.

    Cality is another good app for generating parts by feeding chords or even single notes into it. That’s a little more generative approach than a straight arpeggiator.

    Those are only for generating the MIDI notes though. You still need to send that to something that plays back orchestral sounds. I don’t have much advice there.

    You could use the MIDI from GarageBand’s smart instruments, and route them into other apps using RouteMIDI. Remember though that you need to keep it in Keyboard mode to use it in RouteMIDI, but it does have autoplay in Keyboard mode.

    Here’s another pro tip I learnt from Pete Johns: If you set the autoplay with one finger, it gives a more complex melodic sound compared to 2 fingers, and 3 fingers.

    The Kontact Komplete version has an Instrument called Session Strings which has some nice assisted play modes.
    I don’t know if it’s available separately for use in the free Kontact Player. But check at Native Instruments.

    @AnalogCortex, SampleTank for iOS has string instruments plus auto patterns and phrases. You can purchase extra libraries.
