WARNING: iOS 13 Can Cause Audio Units to Deactivate on Some Macs Running Older OS
I preface this by saying I have no direct experience with this, but I've been seeing reports of this and have not seen mention of it here yet, so thought I'd pass along the info.
Reportedly, plugging in an iPad or iPhone w/ iOS 13 into a Mac running El Capitan or Sierra can cause all your installed Audio Units on the Mac to get deactivated, so they don't show up in your DAW. The fix, they say, is to upgrade your Mac to High Sierra (or later). (However, DO NOT update to Catalina yet. Almost no plugin company supports Catalina yet.)
Again, I am not running iOS 13 (and in fact can never upgrade beyond iOS 12 on my iPad Air 1), so I have not experienced this, but I have seen several reports.
Anyone else have any info on this?

FWIW, i had this happen after installing Looperverse from Retronyms on my iPad. None of my auv3s showed up in AUM after running LP for a few minutes. Sooooo....uninstalled LP, rebooted my iPad and all my auv3s showed up again AUM.
So the lesson learned? Don’t install unsupported Retronym apps. 😬
I think the warning is not about Audio Units. If I remember correctly the problem is with AAX plugins.
What do they mean by connect? Bluetooth, USB, network?
I'm trying to imagine how this could even happen. ILok? The whole thing is weird.
This warning is about AUs on the Mac, not iOS. However, it is caused by connecting an iPad/phone to the Mac.
The reports I’ve seen are all from AU users. Don’t know if it also may affect AAX.
It happens, they say, when you connect the iPad or iPhone into the Mac via a USB cable.
According to the accounts I'm reading, when you plug the iOS device running iOS 13 into the Mac, you get a message (on the Mac) to download some sort of patch to update the Mac to be compatible with the iOS device, and this installs something (according to one user, a whole new version of iTunes) that somehow deactivates all your Audio Units. So the next time you launch your DAW on your Mac, none of your AUs show up.
Yep. I got that. Just relating the latest Retronyms bug i experienced in relation to disappearing auv3s on the iPadOS platform. I know, tangential relationship at best. 🤔👊🏼™️

Thanks for the info. At least it requires actually connecting with a cable to cause it to happen. But, I'm even more confused now. A problem with AAX and iLok I could kinda understand happening. I can't figure out any relationship between AU's and iTunes unless there is just a bug in the installer that deletes the AU's. Even that seems weird and would have to cause the issue to show up under Logic too.

I plugged my iPad running iPadOS 13 into my MBP the other day via a powered hub before reading this to run Touchable Pro and didn’t have a problem.
Conversations around here lately are making me glad I'm on Windows.

Yes, from what I'm reading, it only affects El Capitan and Sierra. Not an issue for High Sierra or later.
But it took a while for people to track down the source of the problem. I kept seeing these "Help, all my AUs are suddenly gone!" posts. Now, it seems, the source of the problem has been identified and acknowledged by Apple. And it only affects a certain subset of users, but good to know. If it weren't for the fact that my iPad CAN'T update beyond iOS 12, I would have been affected myself (since my Mac is still on El Cap).
I guess another solution would be to reinstall and authorize all your Audio Units (but in my case that would be dozens and dozens of AUs, and would take forever).
Upon reading further forum posts around the web, it seems it affects both AU and AAX on several major DAWs.
I been having problems with Ableton Live 10 suite loading VST’s on my MacBook Pro running Mojave. ( see embedded video)
Some VST seem to load and then drop out and Ableton replaces the VST with a Instrument Rack showing EQ 8 utility etc ? I’m finding this really strange behaviour and as I’m new to Mac OS coming from a Windows background haven’t seem the same on Windows using Ableton Live in the past.
The problem seems hit and miss and using other DAWs Reason and Studio One 4 I don’t see the same problems so it seems to be isolated to Ableton Live. I’m using default folders for Ableton VST and AU and have tried rescanning the folders but to no avail?
Any Ableton Live forum members have any solutions to sorting out this VST loading problem or had the same problem?
Not sure if it’s related to the iPad OS 13 connecting issue.
