New app idea
Hi all,
Is there an AUv3 midi app that can do pretty much do what Blocs Wave does? Creating a bunch of patterns, categorize them and keep track of the key. The app would auto transpose patterns to the current key and send the midi to other AUv3 instruments. I like the idea of Blocs Wave but I don’t use it that much because it’s a walled garden. Also I’m not a skilled musician so I want to be able to correct/edit my recordings afterwards which is not possible with Blocs.

There’s a couple of scale based apps that will transpose to a scale. Rozeta Scaler and Scalebud come to mind but I think there’s more. Is that what you mean?
Modstep can do some of it. It will host AUv3. You can even select which patterns or clips should be transposed and/or matched to the key/scale you're using.
The way it works is different from BlocsWave in that you can chance the key and scale of clips playing in realtime: In Modstep you do it afterwards, patterns and clips have no key/scale personality.
The clip launcher in GarageBand is kind of like this. And, you can have both audio and midi clips in there. It’s yet another one of those superbly executed things in GarageBand that always make me wonder why I don’t use it more.
I’d be interested in this. Not sure if I’d call Blocs Wave a walled garden, though. Getting samples in and out is dead easy. In fact, that’s one of the reasons I love it. I just do an Ableton export, and ignore the Ableton parts.

Auto-transpose with midi is no problem, but I'd use Blocs every day if it did not do this with audio. My samples lack time/pitch information and even if they had, the stretching algorithm changes 'sound' too much (not a fault of Blocs but simply the nature of the process).
I'm wondering about the exact same phenomenon. I was really happy to see the audio and MIDI clips arrive in GB, yet there's something strange about actually using them.
Maybe because I don't think the way a UI designer does?
thank you all for your answers. i've always liked the workflow of blocs wave, it's fast and intuitive. it's the best tool for creating small (4-bars) patterns and then combine it with patterns you never thought it could be combined with. i just wish it was AUv3 and midi based.
