IconnectMidi4+ discontinued?
Hi there. I just realised, on iconnectivities website the ICM4+ is not being sold anymore, and filed as „retired“. Anybody know what‘s going on there (I use this thing and very happily so)? Any known issues with new os‘s or something? Thanks for letting me know, cherrs, t

Well, that sucks. I have one running on a system with both Catalina and iPadOS 13.2 with no problems, so I don't think that's the issue.
Maybe they see it as easier to split out the MIDI and multi-computer audio routing in to separate devices.
Probably from a customer support standpoint. I think iOS has been a really arduous platform to support special hardware for, every OS update breaks something.
With the digital audio and midi built in to macOS now via lighting cable, I think most customers stopped needing the digital audio pass through. The exception is people with lots of midi hardware that they want to control with their pc or iPad, that got more complicated, you have to use the computer daw to route midi from the iPad out to the hardware.
I bought one last week, and I’m glad I got it. I had a feeling it was on its way out, because finding stock was very tricky.
On the other hand, maybe MkII is on its way?
They have so many midi products at this point so it's coming down to cannibalization of their own products.
Sadly the new products make no mention of Audio passThru, which I find is the killer feature of my iCM4+
I bought mine mainly for audio pass through, but never could get it to reliably work - always after 10 minutes or less the audio would end up a distorted, garbled mess, whether I was sending to my Mac or Windows PC.
I occasionally have that issue with Mac’s built in audio passthrough, but it seems to have improved with iOS 13, not happening as often.
Planning to either sell mine or maybe use it as a standalone midi router.
Yeah mine was endlessly buggy - now collects dust.
Pity, reluctant to buy anything else from them.
Doesn’t the iCA4+ cover most of what it can do? Or no?

So there is no official announcement at all? Any ways, I was planning to buy another one to extend via network. Mine works almost perfectly for years now, in the beginning I had some issues with the audio, but not anymore. @marmakin: ICA connects two PC devices, while ICM connects three of them (with the valuable audiopasshrough), and also has the Ethernet port for network midi, which ICA doesn‘t. Both of those things are important to me, thus my disappointment... . Also, none of their new devices does all that ICM4+ does..., well. Good news though, that it still seems to work with Catalina. It’s class-compliant, for midi and audio, so it should keep running forever. No drivers needed.

I would love to get 3 devices working together for Audio. (Computer + 2 iPads). That’s the dream for me. Still toying with trying Studiomix for this someday but really wishing iconnect would put out an iCA8+ with support for this too 😎

I might misunderstand, but I just recorded audio from Mac to iPad, and iPhone to iPad, simultaneously, into AUM. All three were hooked up to iCA4+.
Ah maybe you are using the analogue ins also? I was referring to the through audio without analogue input. The ICA4+ only has two audio USB inputs. Meaning the ICA4+ is an digital audio device for two devices simultaneously.
Yes, exactly. Digital for 2 only. I use an analog in for a workaround but it’s not the same.

It's pretty slick -- opens up some really cool use cases. I used to route between my Mac, iPad, and a RaspberryPi. It's great for using to connect up to devices used as DSP modules. If they made one that had this capability and had more inputs, it would be really nice.
Indeed i love my ica4+ , any extras in a new version i definitely buy it.
I’d take the iCM4+ as it is now, but with a couple of stereo lines in and out.
Yeah, I want to run a multiple iPad and/or computer setup. I want a device that can support up to 4 computers/iPads at once without A/D conversion.
Hack would be summing two iCA4+ using the analog outputs from one into another but then you lose 4 inputs on one of them.
Sounds like a clock issue. You might already have it set up, but on the Mac, when you make the icm4 into an aggregate device, you set which of the audio interfaces is the master clock, and which audio interfaces are the slaves. I have mine set up where the real audio interface is the clock master, and icm4 is the slave.
