Music Effect AU support in hosts?

I'm adding a feature to an existing AU and starting to work on a couple of new AU's that depend on MIDI input to the AU, so these will be music effects as Apple calls them. I'd like to test in a variety of hosts if possible. I was wondering if there is a list of hosts that support this somewhere.

I have it working well in Audiobus and AUM, so I know they have support. But, other hosts don't seem to have support or anyway to configure MIDI input to the AU's. Maybe I'm just being dense and the support is there and I don't see it.

    I think Auria Pro does.

    I think Auria Pro does.

If it does, I can't figure it out. I even RTFMed and couldn't get it to work. I'll try again and read slower.

The three hosts I have that I've tried and can't get it to work in are GB, Auria Pro, and Cubasis. It does work fine in Audiobus and AUM.

The AU's I'm testing still show up in GB, Auria, and Cubasis but I can't figure out how to get MIDI into them using the music effect path. I'm most surprised by this not working in GB. I'm hoping that I'm doing something wrong.

In AP, the manual hasn't been updated with the updated midi/AU handling.

You can aim midi output of a track at another track's AU and on any track there are midi in/out choices that come into play.

  • @NeonSilicon : you might want to contact the AP developer directly

Ahh, I can find it on MIDI tracks now. I was only looking on audio tracks.

If I add a MIDI track and then aim the MIDI output at my plugin in the audio track, it works.

    Thanks!

    Cool!

  • I now see that music effect plugins work in Cubasis in MIDI tracks. I still haven't figured out how to get them to work in an audio track, but at least I can do some testing there now.

  • @NeonSilicon, I just wanted to say that I love your work. I love it!

Thank you @animalelder! It makes it much more fun to put these things out there when you know people enjoy using them.

Yes it does. I'm not quite sure what combination of settings finally enabled it for me, but at least when I had an AU synth assigned to the pads, it passed the MIDI through to my music effect.

    Thanks for letting me know.

I guess it’s time to alert @LFS on this issue and hope we’ll get more flexible audio and midi routing options in Cubasis. For now there’s no easy way to route data from a midi track to a plug-in on an audio track...
