New Old Lightning Headphone Microphone Question
There are several posts on the forum about using an external microphone with a lightning port on iphone (e.g., iphone 7/8 and later.) I have not seen an answer to my specific problem. That is, I need to use an external microphone (lightning jack) with headphones. One would think that the Belkin headphone/lightning port splitter would do it, but I have not seen anyone have success with those types of splitters as they seem to only allow charging, not full connectivity. (I've tried with one and it did not connect with my Tascam iM2. (I use a 30 pin to lightning adaptor for the mic.) I've used this rig successfully for years with an iPhone 6, but the loss of the headphone jack seems to be catastrophic. I practice in my truck and have used this set up as a "studio in a phone" to rehearse jazz standards etc. iReal Pro on the phone, the iM2 microphone, and AudioBus 2.0 to mix it all together with effects (AUFX), and then record to MultiTrack DAW. I have to have the headphones to prevent feedback.
Does anyone know of a way to use traditional 3.5 mm jack headphones (trs...no microphone) with a lighting port connected external mic on a phone? Am I missing a simple solution?!?

I’m really sorry to say, I really don’t think that’s going to be possible with the iM2, or with any other audio interface that doesn’t have it’s own headphone jack.
I believe you’ll need to get an interface that allows you to plug a mic (not a USB Mic) into it and has its own headphone jack for monitoring.
That's too bad. I've thought about bluetooth headphones, but that just seems like an invitation for problems. I have a Scarlett 2i4, that I've heard can connect through the camera interface (usb to lightning?) but that seems like too large of a rig for what I'm trying to do. The studio in my phone was perfect for practicing anywhere.
Easy. The Zoom iQ7 is what I'm using and it works for recording through the microphones while monitoring existing audio tracks through the headphones port.

what you can try is the CCK with a USB headset. With iOS13 it should be recognised as audio interface (headphone output and microphone input).
That should work. I was assuming the OP wanted to stick with the Zoom microphone, in which case no other audio interface could be plugged in. If a headset mic is good enough, then you're right, that would work.
