Modstep + percussion / drum machine...how??

hey everyone. Trying to get into Modstep as I love the 'Gadget' style workflow but with the ability to use any of my apps.
But I can't seem to get my Ruismaker drum apps to work with it though. I load it in and can't play the sounds on the keyboard or the pad view.

Does anyone use Modstep with any percussion apps to make patterns with the app's individual sounds within Modstep? (I don't mean a synced app playing it's own loop).

Thanks

  • You need to make sure you are hitting the right notes. Rusimaker starts from C#2 and uses the 8 next black keys.

That's really helpful. Can't believe I actually missed that. Is there any way to change that? It's frustrating that the onscreen keyboard in Modstep doesn't span the entire 8 keys needed (you need to press 'up octave' to reach the final note)

  • There are templates for various apps and hardware gear under, I believe, the documents icon? You need to tap the template editor, which is the fourth icon on the upper left. You'll find CC templates, chord templates and pad templates.

(edit: deleted misinformation) Beside using templates, another quick and simple solution is to set the scale to Major C#, so all 8 black keys will fit in Modstep's edit window.

  • I found a template for Ruismaker but it didn't seem to do anything. However, I just made my own! Thanks man. I'm now assigned and ready to percuss.

  • You can change note mapping in the ruismakers to regular GM mapping....the button is found 3rd from the top right in Ruismaker main screen.

looks like you have a working method now though :)
