How to manage Count-in

Hi,

I like to "jam" alone thanks to audiobus/aum and inter app, but I still have to understand how to manage proper count-in with audiobus/AUM and loops and drums software. I hope that someone on this forum could help me...

My problem is the following: I'd like to jam along using a drum track, with a proper count-in to start playing. For example I choose a loop length (say 12 bars) set a drum fill at the 12th bar. Then I'd like to start playing with a count-in, but I cannot find a proper way to sync count-in properly.

If I use Ableton Link for clock sync, I have the feeling that the clock is always going, and I will not have a complete count-in (for example 1 or 2 full bars). The only way of having a proper count-in seems to disable Link, and use only IAA syncing between AUM and my drum (or loop app), then if I define a count-in in AUM it will be enforced. But it seems that IAA syncing doesn't work with every app...

And it get worst when I try to use both a drum app and a loop app (for example loopy). The only way to have a proper sync seems to go through a full "blank" clock length... But it is a bit annoying when I define a 24 or 48 bars clock length...

I hope someone is able to help me on this topic :)

Thanks in advance.

  • I’m sure this isn’t the answer you hoped for, but Xequence 2 gets this right. It doesn’t send Link Start or MIDI Clock until after the count in is over. You can press play in Xequence and hear the count-in, then everything else will start in time.

But Xequence is a timeline based midi sequencer. I don’t think it’s what you’re looking for.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I hoped for something more « straIghtforward » (for example a way of handling this directly in AUM or Audiobus), but as I already use Xequence (nice piece of software!) I’ll go as you suggest. Thanks for the hint!

    Kind regards.
