As much as I love the app the subscription does kill interest for me too @Dmitry_Klochkov Would much prefer the app itself be expensive than be locked with a subscription.

    +1

  • Yes agreed subscription is not ideal. Large expensive items I can understand but not mobile apps.

I wanted to test the subscription option, but it asks for a password, in something that looked like a popup from the App and not from iOS and it did not even state which password it wants:

At least this feels like you could get this password.
    Did not continue.

I wager you could type any old dijbdjhbd2643 in...

It will be your AppleID password that it wants....it is a popup from the store, and you will not be charged.

  • Dmitry said he worked a year on this, and it's a clever app with a lot of value, for sure. It's a shame that we are still having the conversation about how devs get paid for their efforts but free markets, etc.

Sadly, I will not subscribe either. Perhaps those of us who have responded this way are simply not in Dmitry's intended market segment. I hope that is the case. Given that I'm more on the traditional composition side of things than the EDM-leaning crowd around here, it gives me pause.

  • Me too will not subscribe. I never did that and I’ll never will.

    Me neither.

  • I brought up the subscription vs in-app purchase topic a couple of months ago.
    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/34057/paying-extra-for-each-auv3-instance/p1

The short answer is people hating the subscription model. You can consider selling your app for like $10 and offer to unlock other pro stuff with in-app purchases (dark mode, advanced chord builder, more tracks, midi export, and other stuff) for like $1 to $5 each maybe?

  • Yeah I wouldn't subscribe either. I understand why developers want to do this, but I hate having to keep track of subscriptions. It becomes just one more thing to remember. So I guess I'll pass on this too. Shame, it looks good.

  • Not a fan of the subscription either. Shame. This looked cool

  • Was looking forward to it, but the subscrpition killed my interest.

  • yep, not interested and shame it wasn't mentioned earlier by the dev.

I see this app has a Subscription model?
The app looks great and I would have purchased if it had a one time price
but subscription let Hall and Oats speak for me........

If you change that I will buy it....

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Love ChordFlow, and this one was gonna be instabuy - though not instasubscribe. Canceled pre-order.

  • I wonder who keeps convincing developers to allegedly "monetise" their work with subscriptions. I reckon it looks like a very expensive way to make money really - every dollar you make costs you ten ... from the comments here subs are a HUGE turn-off - unless you're offering something truly unique ... and few apps do actually.... and those that do are near universal and cheap - like Thumbjam.

Sad part of being hungry is they'll never know how big the market really could have been. I'd be seriously checking the actual returns on the subscription models before I'd put such a weight on a product. Just cripples good ideas.

@Tim6502 How do you cancel a pre order it’s telling me that Tune Maker is available from the pre order but like you I don’t want to pay or get stung for subscription ?

Bit low handed by the developer to be honest as the pre order came out before he stated it was subscription only so if people get stung that’s not on.

Hate to pile on, but a hard pass on subscriptions.

Also, this is not a subscription; it's a rental, or a layaway for a product you never end up owning.

A subscription entitles you to new content on a regular basis. Auxy tried, and failed. I'm not sure there's a successful subscription model on iOS, is there?

  • Deleted. No subscriptions here either.

  • @jumpercollins - looks like I cancelled just before TuneMaker became available. As it is free, you will not get charged, but it will be downloaded automatically and you will have to delete it if you would rather not keep it.

Wishing Dmitry all the best on his app. Do count me back in if/when the model for this app changes (e.g. like Wotja).
I do agree that the pay-only-once app model does have its inherent problems. However, when I do not perceive getting an actual service, I would rather not see functionality being yanked away automatically after a certain time (though Apple itself implicitly appears to be one of the biggest yankers).

  • Deleted here too. Sorry but this subscription thing have to finish. We ended up having a lot of loan on our devices.

  • Ah, subscription! The topic to bring us all together as one... 😂

I applaud Dimitry for trying to establish a sustainable business model for his new app. I think his subscription is reasonably priced, even if you only use it once a month to come up with a new track idea.

If you look at some other threads about abandoned apps, it's quite obvious that providing and supporting an app for more than one OS Version IS a service, even if you don't provide major feature updates regularly.

  • I undersdand the need for regular income for developers but subscriptions will never work for most people, but I know it's a nice idea in an ideal world where everyone has lots of money to not worry about it. :)

Because of the way iOS works, for the consumer it's also no more a security that it will remain on the appstore and could be removed or abandoned at any time, so it's doubly risky to put money into subscription apps imo. Like most people I'd never do it for an iOS creative app.

  • I downloaded the app and every time I open it, it opens the files app. I shutdown my iPad and it tried again but there is no change.

Press the « + » to create a first project, it will then open the app

Uploaded a new Tune Maker beta build(#9) to TestFlight. There is now Lifetime subscription option in the Pro Subscription page. Let me know is it working fine or not. Make sure you are using the build loaded from the TestFlight not from the AppStore, so you are not charged for the subscription.

As a straight purchase, I’m interested. As any kind of subscription: never.
