Pure Acid | Groovebox app of 2019? | haQ attaQ (complete sequencer tutorial)

🔥 Dmitrij Pavlov aka JimAudio has done it again! Pure Acid is an Amazing Groovebox 🎛 for iPad and iPhone and it packs a very intuitive Sequencer that has been tailored for ease of use, instant inspiration and all-nighter jams.

This is without a doubt one of the most fun Music Apps I’ve had the privilege of working with during 2019. In this video I’m diving very deep into the Bassline Sequencer, because apart from the awesome FX section, the Sequencer really is a gem in this one. Seems like 303 day swung around and came right back again.

  • Done what again? Ah, put the price up again. I wish there’d been a warning (maybe there was?). I was hoping it would be on Black Friday sale from £9.99, instead it went up to £11.99. Now with your review it’s £15.99, seriously kicking myself. Don’t say anything else about it or I’ll be expecting it with knobs on.

Yeah I was umming and ahhhing about it on release, but seeing this vid makes me want it now. Will wait for a sale though, as there’s other apps on my list too.

  • Is there any reason to get this if I don’t like acid type music or is it pretty limited to that ballpark?

Listen to the various examples and videos that people have posted such as Jakob Haq's recent vid. Has some non-acid house usage.

  • How do you record drums from say, Lumbeat’s Future Drummer midi output to PA. I am getting the signal in. PA’s drums are receiving midi on ch 10... but I cannot record it.. Thanks..

If you have to ask. No. This is probably not for you.

Are FD's output notes matched to the right input notes for PA? Also, is SEND NOTES enabled in FD? It defaults to off.

if neither of those is it, then please describe how you have it set up. Standalone or AU? Host?

It's working great here with FD sending to audiobus' virtual midi in, then to PA AU.

Oops. Re-read your post. You want to record the output to the steps? Yeh, that doesn't seem to work. Playing the drums works, but not recording to the steps.

It will certainly do a job for all the genres along the lines of EDM. You will get yourself lost in a dreamlike world of interweaving electronic notes and you won’t know if it’s Acid or what- it just sounds fantastic. I think you will like the sequencer, in fact I’m sure you will. This is by far and away the music making app I am most happy with. It has made a massive difference to my production even after all these years. It is truly a work of genius. It is simple to operate but sounds amazing. I cannot think of a single reason why anyone who likes making electronic music could not make serious use out of it.

    my two cents:

I'm not into acid, but I sprung for this anyhow. I find that although you can get non acid music to come out of it, the sounds are so tailored to that type of music that it's a struggle to get there. That squelchy bass thing is generally obnoxious to me and the synth is geared for that squelchy, glidey thing.

I'd recommend holding out and putting the money toward drambo. It will get you anywhere you want to go. You can build really lovely sounding synths and drum machines based on synthesis and/or samples, and the sequencer is the best on ios (imo). Not quite as immediately plug and play as PA, but once you get the workflow and build a few instruments, you can drop them in and start making music in real time (the beta doesn't have tons of presets yet, but I'm sure the proper release will have plenty).

Thanks.. maybe it’s me.. But I’ve tried in AUM (Auv3) and Stand-alone... the notes on the drum pads play but hitting ‘TAP REC button’ does nothing..
But, recording in the Bass section works flawlessly..

No, you’re right, playback works, but record doesn’t. I answered earlier before noticing the bit about recording.

Ok.. Just saw your answer.. Thanks..

  • Midi out from Future Drummer to Pure Audio drums is great. I can see why you would like to capture the patterns.

Hopefully we will be able to record midi-in in the future..
