Maybe bitrate plays a part? I was using some custom 24bit IRs from Flo Audio.
It wouldn't surprise me if bit depth makes a difference.
If you were using a 24 bit IR with a 16 bit audio signal then I would expect it to crash...
Thanks! Numbers are always better than speculation
The bit depth of the IR file doesn't matter. The processing is always done with 32 bit floats.
What you mean by "freebie" and "had gone"?
I am sorry that apparently I did not notice this. You can always contact me by e-mail.

@polaron_de
Earlier this year the Convolution Auv in app purchase
was made free for those who already had it on their systems.
Here's the thread.
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/33700/convolution-reverb-in-rooms-is-now-free
Which I had started using.
When I had to de-install the app and then
re-install it the Convolution Auv3 had to be
purchased which I haven't done yet obviously.
Thank you I'll contact you via email.

Hi Ishmael,
with the introduction of the AUv3 functionality, I made the convolution reverb in the containing app (and via Audiobus usage) free. Previously, this was an IAP.
The AUv3 reverb is not and was not free, but it was unlocked in the public beta version because otherwise public testing wouldn't have made sense.
Best regards,
Markus
@polaron_de
Ahhh, thank you for the clarification.
My misunderstanding, it's the containing app that
isn't working anymore from your description?
I used it through AUM and Audiobus.
I wasn't a beta tester.
Best Regards
Ishmael
Hi @Gravitas , I don’t want to speak for @polaron_de , but it looks like what happened was that previously there was a Convolution Reverb IAP that he now made free when downloading the app. This would be InterApp Audio and not AUv3. He then created the new functionality to use this reverb as an AUv3 as a separate IAP, which is something like $3. It’s well worth it.
What is the preset and MIDI IAPs for? Couldn't quite work those out.
@mjcouche
That much I do know.
I downloaded it when it was IAA only,
he announced that he had made the containing app free
and I noticed that the AUV3 was working on my system.
I had to reinstall the app and the AUV3 stopped after the reinstall.
Nothing more.
@polaron_de has clarified it for all of us I think.
Going to get anyway as it processes IR's much longer than 4.5secs.
Though I like Altispace for its inbuilt IR's,
I'll be using Rooms for much longer IR's.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Correct.
See section "The User Presets grid view" and "MIDI control" in polaron.de/Rooms/
By the way, it was not my intention to hijack this discussion.
Best regards,
Markus
@polaron_de
No worries dude.
It's been a good conversation.
Thanks for your help.
Cool, interested to see how much Pro will cost especially in comparison to Impulsestation, but I dig all Jens apps.
~~I am finding that the CPU use on my iPad Gen 6 with iOS 12.3.1 is much worse than with Rooms or the iFX Rack Fantasyverb running IRs of similar length. I don’t have impulsation for comparison.
My test patch is AUM with AudioLayer with the salamander piano loaded and running through the reverb after a restart. With JAX Convolutor, there are lots of crackles and CPU meter is mostly over 60% and often 95% with the window closed. Rooms has no crackles and CPU meter mostly around 25-30% and sometimes jumping to 60%. IFX also no crackles but showing somewhat higher CPU use. Very disappointing given the talk of special optimizations.
I wasn’t making use of any of Convolutor’s special features.
I am curious if others experience the same.~~
EDIT (Jan 4 2020): After some extensive correspondence with Jens and some testing on my own, I need to revise this report. Comparing JAX Convolutor's performance to the existing IR apps on iOS wasn't fair. What wasn't clear at the time is that the other iOS IR apps are dual-mono reverbs. The left channel input is only processed with the left channel of the the impulse response and the right-channel input only processed with the right-channel of the IR. When using true stereo-to-stereo impulse responses and a stereo source with detailed panning, the dual mono gives a very false result. For example, if you have piano in your left input and bass in your right channel (both hard panned), the reverb signal will have piano only on the left and bass only on the right. This is acoustically wrong. A hard-panned sound should have reverberant in both the left and right channels.
JAX Convolutor is (at this time) the only iOS convolution app that does this. So, it is doing twice the processing. And with the detailed stereo inputs and good stereo-to-stereo IR files the difference in result is huge. Because it is doing twice the processing, one may need to increase the buffer size compared to what needs for the dual-mono type convolution apps. But the result is worth it.
Same here.
At a buffer size of 256 in AUM, using just a simple audio file loop processed by PE and the default 4.0s IR is impossible without crackling on an iPad 6.
Will probably eat up battery fast.
Edit: I cannot load a different IR, hitting the IR icon opens an empty list.
Open the stand. Alone first gen you'll e the presets. Happy New year!
I don't even drink and that looked like I typed drunk hahah
Hey thanks, that worked!
...see, no reason not to drink sometimes 😅
Great to get a NY freebie, Jens is a top dev and nice guesture after what Apple done to his Unisonic App which by the way is all fixed now.
~~Are you finding this usable? I was looking forward to this but it's CPU use and buffering issues(crackles) make it unusable for me while other convolution apps work fine with similar IRs.
P.S. just because he blames Apple for an issue doesn't make it so. He had a long description in the App Store blaming AUM for issues in his app that were issues of his not having understood something. We don't actually know that the issue wasn't something like Brambos mentioned (I.e. not some nefarious behavior by Apple)~~
EDIT (January 4, 2020): after further investigation, these comments need correction. The CPU-use IS higher (but performance is crackle free when I increase the buffer size) but that is because JAX Convolutor is doing full stereo processing of the left and right channels independently where the other iOS IR apps are only processing the left channel through the left output and right input from the right output. (More details in a corrected posting higher up on this page).
I also get crashing issues in NanoStudio 2. Works at first when loading but in a small arrangement with little memory requirements, at some point it will just crash and when switching back to the AUv3, there's no UI and sound is bypassed.
Free reverb with 100 IRs. Sweet. Will try it, and consider the Pro version when released. Thanks Jens! 😊 👍
Got the free version.
Fired it up in BM3.
Sounds good so far.
There are some nice sounding
textures in the experimental section.
The free version has just knocked a rather well known
convolution app straight out of the ball park.
I now have one for the classics and
one for the longer reverb times.
More than sufficient for the average bear.
For the more advanced?
A lovely introduction for the full app.
Going to test stability over the coming week.
Still, it's now in the toolbox so to speak.
Thanks Jens Guell
How is it working for you?
Oh, just got it minutes ago, lol. But I intend to give it a spin soon. Will report back if i have any issues. 😊
~~It seems somewhat improved in performance, but it still is using a lot more processing than Rooms with similar IR lengths. Rooms is usable with an 8 second IR with a 256 buffer. But it takes a 512 or 1024 buffer for Convolutor to be crackle free for me (iPad gen 6, AUM).
I am not hearing a huge difference in quality compared to Rooms -- though since the IRs are different, I can't know to what degree that is related to the IR differences.~~
CORRECTION: when using a stereo source with hard-panned instruments in the mix, it is clear that JAX Convolutor is doing full stereo processing (the instruments in the left channel will have reverberations -- different ones -- in the left and right output -- and the same is true for the right channel). This isn't obvious with center-heavy or busy mixes, but with sparse heavily stereo inputs and a really good stereo room IR (I ported some from Altiverb for testing), the difference between what Jax Convolutor does and what the other IR apps do is quite huge. You need larger buffers, but the difference in imaging is huge for some contexts.
