Xequence 2 and Auria Pro

I find that the midi side
of Auria Pro though
serviceable is too clunky
for my needs.

Does Xequence 2 sync
well with Auria Pro???

I was going to get Xequence 1
but it’s gone from the App
Store now.

Thank you in advance.

  • I highly recommend Xequence 2.

No. On IOS every host wants to be the master, and although Auria Pro is one of the few apps supposed to receive external sync, I haven’t been able to slave it to Xequence.

Maybe it’s possible using Audiobus as part of the setup, but I haven’t tried yet.

I was going to get Xequence 1
but it’s gone from the App

Xequence 2 is the actively supported app, the previous one is available for previous owners only.

  • @Rodolfo

Does Xequence 2 slave to Auria Pro?
I should’ve been specific as syncing
Auria Pro seems to be nigh on
    impossible unless I pull out
    SMPTE.

    My mention of Xequence i
    was incidental more than
    anything else.
It was one of those moments,
just as I was about it purchase it,
it was taken off the App Store
and Xequence 2 went up in price.

    It’s all about timing. ;)

Neither Xequence nor Auria Pro can be a slave. BeatMaker 3 seems to be the only DAW-like app on iOS that can be a slave. Xequence does support Ableton Link. But I don't think that it handles tempo changes.

When I use Xequence for MIDI sequencing with Auria Pro, I basically do whatever MIDI sequencing I think will be easier in Xequence and then export the MIDI to Auria. Though, I am finding that I have become more comfortable with Auria's MIDI editing and resort to using Xequence on synth-dominated projects where my audio tracks come last.

  • @espiegel123 Auria Pro can in fact be slave, but only MTC, so it does not respond to MIDI clock. I believe I was not clear enough when I said that Auria can receive external sync. Sorry for the confusion.

  • n-Track Studio DAW 9 can be a slave.

Does this mean it can slave to xequence 2? And does it follow song pointer from Xequence 2?

I found this in the Xequence manual, according to this, it seems like Xequence can send songposition to Beatmaker 2:

    Send Sync
Turn this on if (and only if) you want the timeline of an external DAW (for example, BeatMaker 2 — this is most useful if you want to use audio tracks in your project) or an external pattern sequencer / drum machine (for example, Ruismaker) to run in sync with Xequence.

Xequence sends the following sync information:
    Start
    Stop
    Continue
    Song Position Pointer Clock

Note that if you want an external app to sync to Xequence, you have to create a "dummy" instrument for it (with the "Send Sync" option enabled) even if you do not use any of its sounds (if you do use some of its sounds, just turn "Send Sync" on in one of the instruments. Sync is not channelized, so if you use the same app for several instruments on different channels, if you turn on "Send Sync" for one of them, it will turn on for all of them.)

    There are two modes:
Absolute: This is most compatible with DAWs or sequencers that have a real timeline. It will try to synchronize the absolute time of the destination app / device with Xequence, so both run exactly in parallel. This mode may not be compatible with loop-based apps or devices. For those, use "Relative".

Relative: This starts the destination app / device on the nearest whole bar position, and does not care about absolute timeline position. This mode is most useful and compatible with loop-based apps or devices, like Ruismaker.

Sorry, I don't know for sure. I doubt it though since it doesn't follow Midi Clock and SPP is related to MIDI Clock. I don't think Xequence outputs MTC, so it doesn't seem like Auria could follow X2.

I meant n-track. It looks like from the settings in the free version it follows midi clock or mtc, but can’t try it without paying I don’t think.

    Ahh. I don't have N-Track, so can't say.

  • @everyone I'll try to have a look if it would be feasible to add MTC support to Xequence. But Auria could just as well add MIDI clock (start/stop/continue/spp) support ;)

IMO MTC is superior to MIDI Clock for sequencers (it has been the standard for transport chasing for a few decades) as it is an absolute time reference not relative to the current tempo. I just had a look and it seems common for desktop sequencers to sync to MTC and not midi clock.

  • But i think only two channels would work when Auria is in slave mode right?

Just subscribed to n-track as figured it was worth 79p to find out. I managed to get it to start with Xequence midi clock, but it doesn’t seem to follow spp. Every time I press play it starts from the beginning again. It does send spp though. Aaarrggh!!

    Cancelling subscription soon.

There’s got to be an app that can do this! Just needs to support audio tracks, slave to midi clock, follow spp, and support multi route to AudioBus. Audio tracks solved.

Right. I hate to ask it, but... does MTC chasing in Auria actually WORK? i.e. has anyone ever actually and extensively tried it with some MTC source?

  • Sorry to hijack...

Looks like Zenbeats follows midi clock and spp. Doesn’t do AudioBus though.

I haven’t, but there’s a user on the Auria forum (Anthony Alves) that has used it extensively according to several posts.

  • Wow just had Zenbeats auto start Auria😳 hope X2 can do that someday 😌☝️🙏

My thoughts too. AudioBus is apparently planned I think, right @MatthewAtZenbeats ?

  • Actually, I was just realizing, without Audiobus or IAA, nothing gained. Might as well stay in Zenbeats. The piano roll isn’t as good as X2, but it’s not that bad.

Yep. I used extensively (as stagelight) before switching to Xequence and Audiobus and it’s actually pretty great. If it would just do AudioBus then best of all the worlds.
