Generative midi sequencers?
Allo!
Can anyone recommend any standalone sequencers or auv3 plugs that allow you to parametrically generate melodies, chord progressions, bass lines etc and export or copy + paste the generated sequences into a daw?

You’d think there’d be one or two for the Raspberry Pi that could be influenced by sensors such as light, orientation, temperature, bitcoin exchange rate, cosmic background radiation, proximity, sunlight etc.
Xequence2 w/Polyhymnia will generate, and X2 can do just about anything you need with MIDI.
Get yourself a copy of this database, then pick files at random.
(I’m only mostly, not completely, joking.)

Is it 2 big files 601 GB per file or did I read that wrong On the site?
Yep, 1.2 terabytes.
It’d be pretty easy to do a server-side python or php script to serve up random files to a web browser. Then just open-in to the app of your choice.
Someone could make an app from their open source materials though so that the files could just be generated when requested.
Not me though.
What’s the workflow like getting sequences from xequence into other hosts such as zenbeats? Can sequences be copied and pasted or must they be exported to Files and then re-imported in the other daw? @wim have you had any experience with this/can you recommend any workflows? I love your idea that grabs from the database btw, would be incredible if someone took up your proposition🤞
Hi ... thinking again about the database, it would be kind of silly to pursue that one. I mean, picking something at random from that database is basically the same as closing your eyes and poking your finger around a piano roll editor at random for a little while. It's just basically a bunch of random notes. The intent wasn't to create anything useful, but to create everything possible and copyright it.
As for X2 to ZB midi ... no, there's no cut and paste. You would need to export from X2, go to ZB's timeline, select import midi file, then browse to the file. If you wanted that clip to be in the clip view, then you'd need to copy the clip from the timeline and paste it into toe clip view.
It's not as hard as it sounds. It took about 20 seconds in my trial, but that included navigating to X2's folder. It would default to that folder for future exports.
Woudn't it be wonderful if there was a MIDI cut/paste clipboard format native to iOS?
