Sidechain Compressor By 4Pockets coming soon

From 4pocket facebook:

Just wanted to drop this little surprise on you all for the weekend.

I'm sure you are all aware that AUM is now supporting multiple inputs and outputs, so it is now possible to do genuine side-chaining using AUv3's. Up until now this really hasn't been possible without using the depricated IAA.

So in order to take full advantage of this I have created a new Sidechain Compressor which allows both true side-chaining in AUM and sudo side-chaining in DAW's that don't yet support input and output routing.

The following link shows a prevew of the soon to be released plugin and gives an overview of how this is achieved and what to expect.

  • That looks beautiful.

  • This looks cool but I have asked the developer why he wouldn’t just build this into his existing compressors. I don’t get the need for a new app.

^^ Why spend considerable time updating 3 old compressors when a new one will generate a lot more sales?

This may be one of the reasons why some people don't take iOS Music seriously.

That doesn’t make any sense to me. I love this developer but he has released three comps in really quick succession. Single band, multi band, then visual comp. Now all of them are deprecated? Same with Digistix. It seems like it is now included in Digikeys.

It makes me more cautious as a customer and I don’t think it is necessarily a good tactic.

  • I would support paid updates

  • @gusgranite nah, I get you. I feel the same way. Like this dev's work but I've halted on buying anything 4pockets because I feel like they overlap much.
But yeah, these dudes are also trying to eat out here.

  • If it helps to support him to give us new great apps, it’s not a prob for me.

  • I’m sort of in the middle on this one. I am in no way finding his approach problematic, but I can see that the points of overlap a bit much. It does make me worry regarding any long term care of apps when any developer has quite so many apps, not just for this developer.

    Support works both ways.

  • I have bought more of this developers apps than any other I think. I am a solid customer. But we’re taking side-chaining here. It’s a standard feature of nearly every compressor I own.

But I want to see this guy succeed as well so it’s no biggie. More of a comment on the strategy than a complaint.

  • This should really 'replace' the 4Pockets Compressor in the AppStore as I see no need for it once this one is released...
I see a trend here with new apps popping up and the old ones get left in place (they should really be hidden in the AppStore to avoid confusing new customers).

DS goes way beyond what DK can do. And let's bring up the whole iOS pricing issue again. Let the guy make some money. How many different reverbs or delays or whatever do you have that essentially do the same thing. I know I do.

I just counted 17 apps by 4Pockets that I own, several of which could use side-chaining. If I am asked to buy them all again instead of making the existing ones fully functional (via IAP) I’d be seriously pissed.

That is what is happening with this new compressor.
EQ, Reverbs etc with added visualization packaged as new apps etc. etc.

I've got nothing against 4Pockets apps but I find that I seldom use them...
For compression I really like the RoughRider 3 thing :)

I pretty much buy everything so you can put me firmly in the “let all iOS devs make some money” camp.

Same here. I own most of them because each time there’s a new app from him it seems to fill a gap. Trouble is, they don’t fill the gap all that well and don’t get updated properly. I won’t be buying this new one. I think the dev will have to change strategy at some point because people are going to take heed.

  • I can’t help feeling that a sidechain is a feature not a product.

Same feeling here, the simple fact that they are games developers in parallel never inspired me confidence. Nobody knows if they are musicians or money makers.

That website hasn’t been updated in donkey’s years. Whatever games there are don’t seem to still be in development.

This is really a solid argumentation! how can you trust a dev who also makes games?

You really compare Dimitri Pavlov to Steinberg/Eventide/Arturia/Etc.. years of passion, expertise and sound engineering ?

I talk about FX. Building professional effects is not improvisation, it needs solid skills and knowledge.

So if I have to spend euros, I prefer to spend on safe bets.

This is not an argumentation, just my own feeling 😉 I have nothing against 4pockets or D. Pavlov, of course. Just my own feeling.

    And I own Poison 😄

Idunno. Mr. Jim Audio seems legit. Those others that you mentioned seem more like evil corporations.

    Yep. On iOS for sure.

    Don’t worry, just a joke

Maybe there’s a lot of code that would need to be rewritten, I honestly can’t judge the complexity involved, but what I interpret is that previous compressors won’t be updated to include sidechain.
Anyways, I don’t like the answer.

  • Just thinking of all the amazing synths and plugins made by 1 man bands. Thinking Valhalla, U-he (in the early days), Air Windows, among many others. And all the 'well established' shops who make fairly mediocre plugins.

Or the fact that Reaper's built in plugins (and many of the free community scripts) are as good as many plugins you pay $100+ for.
