Don’t mind what you’re saying, (though the dev might not feel too good about the first two notes above)
I don’t have any skin in it. Just sharing an app that I enjoy. And it’s true there’s a learning curve to surmount, if one wishes to achieve the speed evident in the video, this in part given a unique workflow.

but yep personal opinions etc. Me sharing mine. The app has a workflow, and community feature, completely different than any on iOS, including the ones you mentioned. (Interesting that you took time to dis FLSM)

😊 please don’t take it personal, just my humble opinion.and I did not diss FLSM, all I said is that’s its outdated, since every other daw is trying to implement new features, AUv3, instrumentS, midi fx etc, they just stuck with inter app audio and no other signs of progress, again my humble opinion

  • It’s very similar to the unfortunately now retired Android app PocketBand (originally called uLoops) developed by 2 Beat the same company as the guys behind Oscililab on iOS.

I only used it from like 2010 to 2012, but loved making music (creating arrangements & composition) with it. It was quite revolutionary for its time, all of the audio used was saved in the cloud on their servers, so each time you would edit anything you’d have to press a save/render button.

It was called a social DAW because all the songs made were uploaded to your profile so people could comment and even remix them depending on the Creative Commons copyright the authors chose.

I have a soft spot for uLoops/PocketBand because I discovered it during a rough time; I wasn’t writing or playing much and when I saw it I was blown away and over the next few days had written several song ideas and jam bits.

When I got my first iPad in 2015 and discovered all the things I enjoyed about uLoops were just expanded with the iOS music production apps I was all in. The iOS apps have progressed way past uLoops/PB’s capability but for it’s time, uLoops was just incredible...

They used to have several separate apps. THEN they had several with a subscription model.

Now they have 2 which include all the pervious merged apps capabilities AND only comes in two versions. One is subscription the other you buy for the year of updates but can keep using in perpetuity.

    TL;DR
Just get the $12 Wotja Pro 20(20)

Or get the free one first to try it out; you have to hit play every 5 minutes and can only edit one track, but you have full access to the generative rules and sound engine for that track. Easiest way into the rabbit-hole is to start in Flow mode and use the action menu to save anything you particularly like as a file.

Does it only generate ambient / drone type stuff?

That's what it mostly does out of the box with the built-in settings, but it can do pretty much anything once you start using the admittedly slightly geeky pattern syntax (which is where you create sequenced beats and melodies that can then themselves be generatively mutated). Nearly everything I find myself doing in practice centres on two things, the Fixed Pattern object type and the synth engine, though the many built-in templates and patches are often useful for adding layers to a piece once you've built the basic structure. The dev @impete is on this forum and very responsive.

(I do like Bandpass. Another good one for Android is G-Stomper)

It was a real community vibe on there for a long time. I met some very cool people through that app. I had moved on to iOS but I still visited the forum occasionally and when it was announced it was going to stop being developed for and serviced there were some people who were heartbroken. I totally understood. It was ahead of it's time for sure...

No offense taken, I get that it’s not personal. I appreciate your thoughts.

I saw that @Philandering_Bastard mentioned G-stomper above. G-Stomper (Producer) is another reason I bought into the Android platform, it is crazy cool and also has features not found on iOS.

Two further Android/only reasons I bought a sweet Huawei tablet are Phoenix Studio and Milkytracker

The cross platform apps mentioned above and available on Android are indeed ultra cool and top tier: Audio Evolution Moblie, Wotja, Caustic (with the Echo skin!) SunVox, Reactable, the Pixitrackers, FSLM...These are indeed among the coolest apps ever IMHO, especially SunVox, Caustic, FLSM

I guess in this thread I was motivated to shine a light on the cool Android-only items, especially my most recent pleasures

Same thing was happening for me at first but I think the crashes were sorted. Opening the app when the device was in landscape seemed to be an issue at first...

I’m of two minds on the new version. The song sequencer is much improved, but I’m still getting my mind around the all-sample-based idea. Don’t know if there is the same breadth of sound design possibilities (that may be my limitation rather than the apps)

And the flicking rather than sliding for adjustment of params, not sure if that’s an improvement.

I think the hardware version is taking most of the developers time of late.

I doubt that. There are far more countries where it’s available than those where it isn’t. I can see how you would feel that way if you’re in one of the excluded countries though.

  • I dont like the buying loops/samples model of bandpass. I would rather pay a one off fee per year or outright to use, without having to check whether i have enough credits to continue when i have an idea.
