Help/ideas for SSD with Samples on it

Hey folks. I have a sample addiction and I would like to load up my SSD with about 400gig of my sample library. Is there a way to preview the sounds in any app so it does not open one at a time?
Like in AudioShare if I could sequentially go down a folder tree and listen to each one that would be great! I thought AudioShare would let you see the SSD before adding it to the library?

Any Thoughts?

  • Never mind I figured out if you swipe left You can go through all the samples that way I can audition them quickly anyway thank you

  • Thanks but where do you swipe left to preview them?

See here.... at least I can go through them quickly and if I like I can move to AudioShare.

  • never knew about that swipe left way of auditioning samples in Files.

I recommend Auditor - it has a small speaker icon when in the Files view, and when it is activated it allows for auditioning samples by a single tap on the file name.

  • Tip: Sometime, when you tap on a file in the Files app, it will open in another app, instead of showing a preview.

The workaround is to long-press (or right click) the file, and choose Quick Look from the contextual menu.

    Thanks @onerez, got it! 👍🏼

Wouldn't it be better to use AudioShare for accessing the USB drive?
If you are on iOS 13, that is.

Uhhh. Unless I am a complete idiot I cant see how? That is what my original intent was hoping was that the SSD drive would show or I could add it library. I cant seem to see how to do that. Obviously you can download from the SSD to AUDIOSHARE no problem. @rs2000 do you know how?

You're right. AudioShare does not seem to support usable access to USB drives.
I just selected a folder with many samples and AudioShare started copying the whole folder immediately which is total nonsense of course.
The point of using an external drive is to avoid storing all files on the iDevice.

Maybe @j_liljedahl can enlighten us how to preview files on USB?

  • It would be great to use AudioShare’s preview ability on an external USB drive then if you find one you like or more you could select them and drag them over permanently that would be awesome

In the current way AudioShare works, the whole library is kept in a single location (shared by AUM and the AudioShare Files provider plugin), and accessing external files can only be done by first importing (copying) them.

However, new in iOS 13 is a way to get access to whole external folders. So in theory, I could allow the user to import a "link" to a folder and keep it in the local library. Opening the link would need the external folder to be accessible, but would access it in-place without copying anything. This is something I'm planning for a future version of AudioShare, perhaps even an AudioShare3 combined with a major rewrite and re-design from the ground up.

  • @j_liljedahl thanks for the great apps!!!!!!
