So cool, can't wait! I'm loving PSP on my phone. Also can't wait for the "notch" to go away forever.
Again? Man, you're killing it. My tiny iPhone SE (2016) is going to be a powerhouse of a live machine , combined with Nanostudio 2, Gadget 2, Audiolayer, Mirack, Moog, and now Neo-soul Keys + Pure Synth.
Now, if only Gadget 2 was AUv3, then I could run my entire session in Nanostudio 2 or Xequence.
You can host Gadget and NS2 or X2 in Audiobus or AUM and run them all together happily ... until your phone melts, that is.
Yup. That's how I like my Apples. Warm, crispy, melted A9 chip, with a serving of sick beats.
I'll probably use Audio Bus 3 for this. I like the ability to switch windows. If I knew what CC is, and how to effectively use it, I would be golden.
Hmmm...maybe I should make a video on this. But I gotta understand CC. Any video recommendations?
...yeeessss, you’re the best music app producer!!!looking forward to this great app on iphone🤗
eh? Sorry, I don't understand the question.
I’ve been stoked seeing these get to the iPhone. Thanks for getting these universal, these are my favorite apps to reach for when I’m making music
Oh, I was asking for recommendations for using CC. I just recently started learning about MIDI, but I was looking for a video recommendation.
Um. That's like asking for recommendations for using notes. Using for what? Sorry, I'm kinda confused.
I gotta learn to be a bit more specific. Okay...I'm looking for recommendations for using CC in Nanostudio 2 and/or Xequence 2. I've read the (long) manual of Xequence 2, but because I don't understand the concept of CC, I wasn't able to follow what it actually meant.
Ahh, I see. Unfortunately I gotta go do something for about an hour, but will 'splain some when I get back if others haven't chimed in before then.
Hey @Samflash3 - I'm going to oversimplify some here about what MIDI CC's are and what they do, but hopefully this will help you to understand what you're reading / seeing. Looking for videos generally about CC's is probably too wide of a search, so maybe this'll help you narrow it down.
MIDI CC stands for MIDI Continuous Controller. It's a type of midi message that contains 1) the message type and channel, 2) the controller number, and 3) the value of the controller. There are 128 available CC's per channel, numbered 0-127. The value associated with that controller in the message can range from 0 to 127. (There is another case where controllers can be combined to have 128x128 possible values, but ignore that for now, it's not often used.)
Let's say you have a midi controller with knobs, or an X2 controller set up to send CC's. The sender is going to have a CC # and channel associated with it. When you move the controller, it's going to send messages out that contain those three elements. The third element (the value) is what is changing as you move the controller.
To make use of those messages, you set up an app or hardware to listen for that message and then do something. For example, if an app has midi learn, you might set it up to learn which parameter to link to the filter cutoff. It will sit there listening for messages, and when it hears an incoming midi message it will make that link and tell itself to move the filter cutoff whenever it receives that message.
Many apps don't have midi learn, but if they are AUv3's usually expose their parameters to the host. So, in that case, you link the parameter in the host up to listen for that cc message.
With that background, this might be a good video to take a look at. Mitch shows how to link up Xequence CC controllers to control a filter cutoff in Gadget. After the first part showing his setup for X2 and Gadget, you can probably skip to about 17:00 to see where he draws in automation. I don't know if that's the best video for starting off, but it's the only one I came up with in a short search.
Whoa. Thank you for this. I'll dive deep into Xequence, then hopefully I'll be knowledgeable enough to understand how to do it for Gadget and Nanostudio. Thanks again.
You won't get far by just focusing on Xequence. It's only the controller in this case. Those controls don't do anything until they're hooked up to control something. So, you will need to step back and get the big picture.
Basically, you're moving a control that you want to do something. You have to set up the linkage to something that you want to control or nothin' will happen. It's like sitting on your couch playing with an automobile steering wheel. Works better when the steering wheel is in the car.
Hmm...so, Xequence + Gadget? I was able to do the MIDI routing in Xequence pretty easily.
Yep, good choice because Gadget lists the CC #'s for each of its controls. You don't even have to do midi learn. Just add a controller for that CC into the Xequence channel that's sending to Gadget.
Update is out now
Yeeesss!!!...thank you so much Gospelmusic...this is so great!...and it’s working so seemingly...whooaaa...
Is this the same deal where if we “buy” it again it just says to download it?
...yes, you can push button buy and you won’t pay gain (It wouldn’t matter me to pay this great app again! But it wasn’t so..)
First, thank you for making this and PSP universal! Working great so far.
Is there an easy way to bring over the favorites from iPad to iPhone? I’d like to avoid going through all the banks again if possible and it doesn’t seem to recognize the favs by default.
Thanks in advance.
@eyesunderground You can go into iCloud and import backup sessions from the iPad. Go into presets and hit the restore icon and choose a recent backup. It'll import the favorites as well.
