Typing this while having another go at optimization, chasing a self-imposed goal of using less, or at least not more CPU, in the main hot loop despite doing ~2x the work. SIMD, CPU cache tuning, register spill reduction, all the 'fun' stuff...

Not sure. Will the previous version presets work?
I'll need to give it a thought. Not all VM1 parameters map directly to VM2 (filter placement is different), but maybe this could be considered 'close enough'...
