Wow! Way better than I ever expected. Can't wait for this update....
In my pocket again.
This video really doesn't do it justice. It's just a little look. I can assure you that the MIDI out is way way WAY cooler then i could possibly show in one short video. A lot of great options. @Rhism really out did himself with this.
next time i'm able to put away some money i'm buying guitarism... @Ryan the video sold me.
Wow - more than I was expecting, looks amazing!
Very nice. Hopefully the near future is tomorrow! ;-)
Thanks guys! I'd been finding the standard MIDI out thing to be not very useful for a guitar, so I kept adding stuff to it till it became useful When the IAP comes out it'll let you control up to 3 additional apps in complementary roles (guitar notes, bass note and chord notes) in addition to optionally playing the guitarism sounds too. Add a drum loop and sing while playing to basically have a full band sound. I'll be posting the full 'manual' online at some point with more details on the controls it lets you tweak (channel/octave/velocity per output, polyphony settings for guitar notes, whether or not to follow fret muting for bass / chords).
BTW I haven't even started on midi in yet. I was earlier thinking of waiting till midi in is also done to release them both as a single larger IAP. But that might take a while (I'd also want to take midi in well beyond the "expected" thing). So I figured would be better to release this now as it's pretty fun and useful, and then do MIDI in separately later.
Also, I don't want to call this IAP "MIDI out" as that implies a lot less than what it really is. Any suggestions for what to call it?
Wow, this is a midi controller, (not just MIDI out).
MultiMidi out? (I'll let you trademark it!) Is there a way to control the velocity when you're playing?
@Rhism "Midi out control center"
"Advanced midi controller"
"Guitaridi" or
"Guitarismidi"
@Ian yes. You can set the velocity in a few different ways.. more on that later. If it's an app controlled by strumming the strings then, the faster you strum the higher the velocity.
@Ian You can specify velocity separately for the bass and chords streams, and a min/max velocity for the guitar notes stream (to use guitarism's strumming dynamic range). The velocity controls use buttons not sliders, so you can set them very accurately. E.g. if you wanted to use @Ryan's Yamaha Pacifica guitar patch in BM2, you could dial in the specific velocity range based on the section of that patch you wanted to use (since he maps completely different sounds on different velocity ranges).
Great names - keep 'em coming!
This looks even more useful than I had hoped for. Great job for the unexpected. We tend to like that sort of thang :-) .
Earlier I had posted that MIDI in/out should be standard in this day and age for all apps/VST's/etc. While I still hold true to that thought in general, I feel like your approach to including them separately simply because of how you are developing them differently from previous normal implementations, I feel personally that they are worth the extra IAP.
Possible names:
MIDI Out Band Style
MIDI Out Guitar Notes, Bass Notes, Chord Notes
MIDI Out Guitar, Bass, Chords
MIDI Tri Out
Tri MIDI Out
MIDI Out All-In-One
Optimal MIDI Out
MIDI Out Extreme
MIDI Out Supreme
MIDI Out Maximum
MIDI Out Superior
MIDI Out Ultimate
IAP names:
Advanced MIDI controller (MIDI out)
Advanced MIDI receiver (MIDI in)
Although, "MIDI out ultimate" has a nice ring to it :-)
And by the way, nice innovating to make this really unique and useful!
Darn, sorry for the less than perfect formatting. It looked good before posting I swear.
@Keebo it's not your fault. It's just how vanilla forums deal with line breaks. If you leave a couple blank spaces at the end of each line before pressing return it will work the way you intended. :-)
Thanks man, I appreciate the info.
Again, looking forward to what comes next.
Or type this after each line < b r > but no spaces in between it
will do this
Thanks for all the names guys. I like "MultiMidi Out", "Midi Out Control Center", "Tri Midi Out" (sounds like an invitation!), "Midi Out Band Style" (though would need drums for this to be true) and "Midi Out Extreme / Ultimate" (though kinda 80s cheesy). Other perhaps more pedestrian but less ambiguous options would be "Midi Control" or "Midi Controller". Right now "Tri Midi Out" is winning me over but I'll sleep on it And of course feel free to throw out any more!
Triple play midi
Nice function,I will buy it.
Not Your Mother's MIDI Out
"...with our new patent pending NYMMO technology"
@syrupcore LOL!
Whatever you call this, I don't understand why we should pay for two IAP's - MIDI in and out. I would be happier to pay for virtual MIDI functionality covering both. Give us OUT now then update to IN later. That way early adopters feel good and the IAP is more palatable. Unless you are going to make a tiny charge say 69p for each then it wouldn't matter too much either way.
Looking forward to this though :-)
Awesome
GuitarisMIDI, surely. Works on 2 levels!
Goodman Adil and nice scoop the mars boi's.
Midism?
I don't know if you can do this for the first release but maybe something to think about - with most (all?) the chord apps that I know, when you select a chord it is always in the root position. Sometimes this is fine, but it can make some chord transitions a bit jumpy. Would it be possible to either:
A) have an intelligent chord mode that selected the closest inversion to the last chord played, to make the transitions smoother, or...
be able to define a particular octave range, and then all chords would be inverted to fit in that range. So if for example your range is G to F#, a G chord would be GBD as normal, but a C chord would be GCE, an F chord would be ACF, etc.
Food for thought! I think it would be unique and useful.
I Like what Phil said...MIDISM IN....MIDISM OUT......thats so cool
@Ryan too cool. I want this NOW!!! Opens up SO many possibilities!
