Will all apps need updating before they work with iOS9

With iOS8 all music apps seemed to need an update as the change from iOS 7 was so radical. Are we in the same space with iOS 8 to 9 or can we reasonably expect the majority of apps to transfer ok?

Do we need to hold off on upgrading until we have our essential apps declared updated for iOS 9 or are we likely to be ok with just the risk of a few apps not transferring before officially updated?

Can any of the devs / iOS 9 beta testers offer a view?

Btw - I'm not looking for certainty here, just a general feel on whether we are likely to see a repeat of last year or a more painless transition.

  • I've got a bunch of apps working fine .... Only one I've noticed with issues is Waldorf Attack (it won't load) but I've not been through them all testing yet. So may be a bit hit and miss.

I'm pretty sure (even considering it will be a hard duty) that Sebastian will update the "iOS9 compatible/not compatible" tag in the "Apps" section.

  • Most of them are working fine here too, I havn't thested Attack yet, will try it, I had a few issues loading IAA effects on Auria, and there are a few graphical bugs on FM4, but everything else that I've tested is working fine

  • Cheers folks...here's hoping for a less rocky time than last year then :)

  • My first ever iOS major OS upgrade. Think I will wait and bide my time as I only have the one device.

  • Currently I have 166 'music apps' installed on my iPad Air 2. Remains to be seen how many of them work under iOS9 when it goes live on Wednesday.

Another question is how many apps are in the pipe-line waiting for iOS9 compatibility approval? :D

  • Currently at 197 after deleting 20 apps that have not been updated or used much. I would say a good 90% are working as I need them on iOS 8.4. Yep, I have some AB and midi issues now and again, but nothing deal breaking.

Seems quite a few updates coming through these last couple of days, so I would be surprised if we get flooded with updates very soon.

Well, and there are "apps", like Akai Synthstation (last update 13/10/2012) that never showed more than iOS 4.3 required. So I don't expect updates from those apps anymore.

  • Every iOS update is a good indicator on how much the developers really care about their apps :)

  • ... Or maybe just an indicator of whether it is still viable for them to be putting their energy into apps that don't generate anymore income

  • A quick reflection is that the developers who use their own apps to create music are more likely to also keep their apps up-to-date with the iOS releases.

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how things roll. I will be updating my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5 to iOS9 the minute it's live. Once those are updated the 1st Gen iPad Mini will get some attention...

  • So, how many of us are diving straight in fearlessly on day 1 and how many playing the cautious game for a bit?

I was on 7.1.2 until about June, but I'm sort of over the fear now and will probably just wait a few days to make sure there are no major issues.

  • +1 for diving in right away :)

We must respect those who surf the bleeding edge... Makes the world a better place for the rest of us :)

That's a bummer. I've been thinking about getting Attack. I hope it won't take them forever to release a fix

  • updating to iOS 9 on day one, i did the same from iOS 7 to iOS 8, this update seems far more stable.

We are excited about iOS 9 from Apple that will be released on September 16, however we are also aware of some compatibility problems with some of our apps. In particular, we have confirmed that KORG Gadget for iPad, KORG Module for iPad and iM1 for iPad have fatal problems (e.g. crash on start-up) so if you wish to continue using these apps please refrain from updating your iPhone/iPad to iOS 9. As with many apps from other developers our other apps also have some issues that we are working to resolve ASAP.

We are currently preparing new updates that are compatible with iOS 9. These updates will be available on the Apple app Store as soon as we confirm they are completely stable. Until then, we advise that you do not update to iOS 9 until all applications have been confirmed as okay. We will inform you once we have finalized these updates which should be very soon.

  • Thanks for posting ! I would be very sad without korg gadget !

  • +1 I am updating as soon as it goes live, the app that don't work would just get left behind for the time.

  • As a user I would always make sure that all of the apps that I use in my workflow are compatible with a new OS before I update to it.

  • Here we go again

    Yep.

  • Apple wants us all to be excited by their updates, but it just strikes terror into most of us!

Many thanks for the Korg post !
Being in the middle of a gadget project, the last thing i want to do is to update - for the time being !

  • It would not surprise me if the failure has something to do with the shared content between Module/iM1 and Gadget.

    so much THIS :)

  • I really do hope IOS 9 will be ok? Not like IOS 8, which was as popular as a turd in a swimming pool..... Best to wait and see.

  • I'm already on iOS 9, Gadget does not crash on me, Darwin/iM1 works fine too. But it may depend on the ipad model you have. Better safe than sorry
